Vista Ultimate Final real on T60p

#1 Post by DAH » Fri Nov 17, 2006 6:45 am

Just Downloaded and installed the final real vista from MSDN (en_windows_vista_x86_dvd_X12-34293.iso), Media Center is working on this build for me. It detects and installs drivers for my HP Dual TV Tuner. :)

My Intel Pro Wireless is detected and drivers are installed, but I don't seem to be able to turn it on. :( Function F5 turns on Bluetooth and the WAN but doesn't turn on the Intel Pro Wireless.

Well rebooting seem to have fix my problem with the wireless :)

Vista is unable to find a drvier for the Biometric Coprocessor, or for the Sierra Wireless MC5720 Modem.

What are you using as a anti virus?

Thanks

Just installed the new version of PC-Doctor 5.00.4329.01 it appears to install with no problems, and appears to run OK. The video test under Vista takes much longer do to the increased memory (1019 MB 763 MB shared).

Well after struggling all day I've got my Pocket PC syncing with Outlook 2007 :)

My impression is this build is much more stable than any of the beta I've tested. Makes me wonder if the betas where not intentionally crippled.

Currently i'm running NIS 2007 beta on my desktop and NOD32 RC1 on my TP.

Btw. how did you manage to sync your pda? I was trying yesterday but without success.

Well even tho this is the RTM it doesn't seem to include a fully working Windows Mobile Device Center. :(

So download and run the Windows Mobile Device Center Beta 3 (currently) from here, http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/ ... enter.mspx

Be sure you've got some free memory on your Pocket PC 2003 or Windows Mobile 5 device, a soft reset is a good idea before the first dock. Once you figure out that you need the Beta 3 or later version, (install it after installing office) things go pretty quick.

Connection sounds are different than with ActiveSync. Also if you're connected but the Windows Mobile Device Center doesn't seem to know it, (you've heard the sounds, and your WM5 shows it's trying to sync) try clicking on Connection Settings and un-checking allow USB connections click OK. When the screen comes up prompting you for the change click continue, then go back and check allow USB connections and OK and continue. This seems to reset the Mobile Device Center. Your WM 5 or Pocket PC 2003 device may also prompt you that you must install ActiveSync 4.X or later pay no attention to it, this is what you need.

Hope that helps

I installed Software Installer version 3.63.0611 and it seems to work, even tho I got compatibilities warning when I installed it. Note that it finds Windows XP software and offers to install it, not windows Vista software as far as I can tell. I use it to install the following.

I've just installed ThinkVantage Active Protection System 1.41 and ThinkPad Configuration version 1.54 I got warnings on both that there were Program Compatibilities issues. I chose to run them anyway.

Active Protection System installs in control panel and gives a warning about compatibility. It **seems** to work, but may not create an icon in the task bar. At least I don't have one so far, perhaps after I reboot. ***Edit after rebooting I now have the icon.

ThinkPad Configuration again gives a warning about compatibility. But installs and **appears** to run. System information tells me I have Windows Vista (TM) Ultimate OS version 6.00.6000 That my BIOS version is 2.01 (79ETC1WW) dated 2006-09-29 Embedded controller version 1.07 Total Available Graphics Memory is 1019 MB (what Vista reports as well)

I also managed to install APS 1.41 on my vista. Actually it really brings some compatibility warnings but it works like expected. The taskbar icon only comes up when APS is called the first time.

So far i installed the following:

APS 1.41
UltraNav Beta Drivers
ATI Catalyst RTM Drivers
Hotkey Features (latest version)
TP Configuration Util

Still doesn't work:

F5 WLAN toggle (only brings up bluetooth) - that's not really an issue since you can control wlan with windows mobility center.

Fingerprint Reader. At the moment i don't have any need for it.

Thanks DAH for your info bout the wdmc. I researched a litte about that issue and found some info that i should be automatically installed by windows update. Indeed that was not the case here so i had to install the wdmc beta 3.

But still not able to sync cause i'm syncing directly with our exchange server. Fails to contact the server cause wdmc is not enabling ip-pass-trough on vista. Still trying to figure out whats going on here.

This is the only downside since everything else working fine:

Here is my system rating on my TP 200763G:

Processor: 4,7
Memory: 4,5
Graphics: 4,5
Gaming grphics: 4,0
Prim. HDD: 4,5

What is the windows mobility center and how do you access it? I have WWAN EVDO and want to upgrade but don't know how to turn this on/off w/o F5 toggle.

you can access the windows mobility center thru control panel or by pressing Winkey+X. It will let you control your wlan-adapter, battery settings, volume, etc..

Actually i don't know how to get your wwan card to work since my tp doesn't have one installed.

Just downloaded and installed the new ATI Vista drivers and Catalyst Control center from Lenovo,

Driver Packaging Version 8.29.100-060814a-035664E-Lenovo
Provider ATI Technologies Inc.
Driver File Path \REGISTRY\MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0000
Direct3D Version 7.14.10.0431
OpenGL Version Not Available
CATALYST® Control Center Version 2.0.2417.37322

So far it appeares to work, but their is no speed improvement over the drivers in Vista for me.

The drivers Lenovo release today are only those which you could get on the beta site.

Even worse: The ATI Catalyst driver is still the alpha version from ATI dated on 08/06/2006! Look at the INF file:

Windows Vista (Beta2 RI14)

So i'm back to the ATI RTM drivers, which you can get on their site.
