Really wierd T43.

#1 Post by rabbarba » Sat Nov 18, 2006 6:40 am

I was playing World of Warcraft on my T43, when suddenly everything freezes. Mouse, capslock indicator, everything. So i pushed the on/off button to turn it off. Then when i try to turn it on, it beeps. Its first one short beep, then a small pause then 3 small beeps. This repeats twice, then it just stands there. The screen doesnt turn on.
The beeps go like this.

X

X
X
X

X
X
X

x=beep

Whats happened?!

Hi,

Your description and your "x"es doesn't match. Do you mean:

x

x
x
x

x

x
x
x

If this is right then according to this there's something wrong with you EGA/VGA device...

Heard of something that the T43's have some heat problems with the X300's or something like that so they break. Do you think this is what happened to me? I mean, I turned on my computer, i played for 20-25 minutes, then the thing freezes. It doesnt start now.

Is this true, with the X300's?

Got a T43 with ATI X300 graphic card.

BTW I listened to the beeps more carefully.

This is exactly how they beep:

X
X
X

X

X
X
X
X

X
X
X

All are short beeps.
So it beeps: 3, 1, 4, 3 beeps.

[censored], ok

I tried with an external monitor, without the CDRW/DVD, without the harddrive, without the memory, but still doesnt work.

Luckily i got warranty until 2009..
But still, it would be nice to get it going myself.

It would be nice but if you still have warranty left you might as well use it. The danger is that you may void the warranty by opening up the machine. Besides, the symptoms are weird! The 1-3-3-1 is a memory (lack of usually) symptom. You've also taken off just about everything apart from the wi-fi/network card. You could take that off as a last resort.
Cheers
