T60P V5250 Video card's DirectX10 compatibility?
T60P V5250 Video card's DirectX10 compatibility?
I've been wanting to upgrade my t43 to a t60p but decided to wait for vista, a 15" IPS screen, core 2 duo and a DX10 video card to be available before pulling the trigger.
Now the first 3 has all arrived, and I see that the new T60P is getting a newer FIREGL 5250, do you guys have any info on whether this card is directx 10 compatible, and when Lenovo would release a directx10 card?
thanks...

nice topic guys.
so what do you think about the new t60p 15" flexview and games?
wondering if the 15" is worth going to versus the 14" that i almost bought last week.
14 would save some battery, and be smaller , more mobile, but 15" (one more [censored] inch) is not a worlds difference if it comes with a nicer screen, etc.

i have an itchy finger wanting to buy a T60P 15" IPS with V5250...
As far as screen width goes, I'll never get a 14 as long as a equally capable (SXGA, IPS...) 15" screen is available.
In the T60P configuration, the 14" does not have IPS options so its out of consideration.
14.1 SXGA+ TFT [subtract $215.00]
15.0 SXGA+ TFT Flexview Display with Wide Viewing Angle

What is the difference between "compatible" and "capable"?iatacs19 wrote:only card on the market that is DX10 capable is the Geforce 8800 series. All other cards are DX10 "compatible", but not DX10 capable.
Vista only requires DX9 to run Aeroglass so you should be fine with any card on the thinkpad lineup.
I want to future-proof my laptop for at least 3-5 years, so I waited for Core 2 Duo instead of Core Duo (64-bit).
What is the difference, how significant is it, how long until it comes out? 1-2 months, or more like 6-8 or more?
Thanks a bunch, I'd truly appreciate any info you have

Personally? I would wait for the T61 and give Lenovo and ATI time to work something else out that is closer to the Vista reqs as opposed to jumping for a C2D T60/p right now. The T61 will also have Santa Rosa in it and more of the chipset will be, ahem, "64-bit" (Intel has been a tad confusing on this one) as well as having more advanced wireless.
All around, it is pretty difficult to future-proof for DX10 as, pointed out before, there are quite few cards that are listed as "compatible" as opposed to capable. Thus far, I have been pretty happy with DX9 and my X300 for all my needs to the point where I could really wait for the T61 to develop and incorporate a DX10 mobile video card.

It will be 6 months at least before we see DX10 capable GPUs for mobile applications.
DX10 "capable" means that the GPU architecture has been designed with the DX10 features in the silicon die and all or most all DX10 features are supported natively in hardware.
DX10 "compatible" means that is can use DX10, but cannot take advantages of any new features introduced by DX10. So any DX9 card can still run DX10, but only make use of features up to DX9.
Not sure if I made it any clearer sorry, anyone else please jump in and add to this.
