Well, I just booted my T60p without AC power for the first time, and it crashed during boot. A quick investigation revealed the culprit: It's the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery". If I go to safe mode and disable that in the Device Manager, the system boots normally, but I obviously lose some power management capabilities (I don't see any battery information at this point).
If I try to enable that battery device while the system is running, the screen becomes all corrupted with some seemingly random pixels, and the system restarts after a few seconds. It's very curious!
Any ideas? There doesn't seem to be an updated version of this driver. Perhaps I'll have to wait for a Lenovo driver?
Has anyone else seen problems with this device on a T60?
Vista crashes on my T60p!
Well, I found a solution that appears to work so far. I did Update Driver on the ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery device, and replaced its driver (telling Vista to show non-compatible hardware) with the Microsoft Smart Battery Subsystem.
That fixed the bluescreen, and the battery device does appear to work, correctly showing the battery's state (charging, discharging, etc.), and properly controlling the system's power state (high performance, Power Saver, etc.).
I'll post an update if I find any problems with this setup, though I'll probably just replace it with Lenovo's drivers in the near future, as soon as they release them.
Speaking of which, has anyone heard of expected release dates for Lenovo drivers for Vista?
