Infrared port on T22
Infrared port on T22
sorry for this silly question, but I have checked through all of the hardward manuals I've saved for this laptop and I cannot find where this IR port is located. I want to try to do a Hotsync with my Palm using the IR. Do I have to have my Palm pointing at the port to do this? Thank you for any help.

Your question just answered mine-- I didn't know where my IR port was until you posted yours.
I'm going to have to install the software on this bad boy so I can sync via IR...

If the IR port is setup properly, whenever the Palm is turned on and moved within visual range, the laptop should announce the fact that it found <name of Palm PDA>. (Really shocked and confused my daughter when that happened the first time!) I tend to DISable the IR ports on all of my systems since I don't want any stray signals to interrupt anything. I've always used a cradle to Hoysync my Zire 71s.

Neat! I'm transferring a file right now.
Hrm... quick question, almost unrelated, actually... can I sync via wifi?

I think that has to be an ability of your PDA. My Palm Z22 can Hotsync via USB cable, network, modem or IR. I would guess network might by WiFi?? Isn't it great when small things like this can make you so happy.

Ray, may I ask you where you configure your IR port? I read somewhere that there is a Utility Configuration somewhere to configure all kinds of things. Can I do this under Wireless Link in Control Panel? thank you

I'll be darned, I just tried it Ray and I turned on my Palm and put it near the IR port and this Boing sound happened and a little icon appeared on the taskbar and on my desktop, asking me if I wanted to transfer files to Palm? That is just so cool.

I have a WiFi card that is supposed to work with my Zire 71 but it's very spotty (even sitting right on top of my access point). So I haven't ever tried syncing it with my computer via wireless network.
I normally turn off the IR port (and enable the serial port) inside the BIOS setup screen. I think trying to have BOTH enabled causes some problems with resource conflicts, but I could be wrong about that. The ThinkPad Configuration Utility, if installed on your system, is that icon in your System Tray that looks like a monitor with a keyboard in front of it. You can configure most everything there.
