2373-3VU for $2229!

#1 Post by Skywing » Mon May 17, 2004 3:11 pm

That is correct! Bill has emailed me with his bulk pricing for the 3VU which is a $3100 laptop. This is an excellent price which no one should pass up, just for reference, this is only $50 more than the IBM direct Education Price that I received a little while ago. Bill asked me to post this for him here since he wont be able to for a little while. Here is a direct link to the model he is offering

Great Price, but does it do CD-RWs?

#4 Post by cyber » Mon May 17, 2004 6:54 pm

This is a great price for the laptop (thanks Bill!), but does the 3VU's "DVD-R" drive also do CD-RWs?

Thanks!

Yes. http://www-3.ibm.com/pc/support/site.ws ... MIGR-55186

This type of information is readily available on the IBM website.

Can someone clear something up for me? The tabook.pdf seems to say that this system has the 150 nit, SXGA screen (basically - the same screen as on the T41p)

The Web link claims it to have a 14" Flex-View screen.

Which is it?

Generally speaking, tabook is usually correct.

I like the specs on the 23733VU except that it doesn't have Bluetooth built-in.

Except by using an external USB Bluetooth dongle, does anyone know if this can be upgraded internally after purchase?

Or, what is the model above the 23733VU that contains Bluetooth?

Thanks

Bill,

I'm sure those of us that don't order from you would still like to contribute funds to keep this board going. If you have a PayPal account, we'd be happy to make a donation.

thanks for the offer..

for now, just buy your new thinkpads here.. :)

to buy into the 23733VU group, i need commitment and in most cases a $250 deposit..

send email to me at bill@thinkpads.com and i'll reply with the details..

please do it by close of business wednesday.. florida time..

paypal is now charging to take payments even to my personal paypal account..
so add enough to cover that cost..

or send me a check (email for my address)..

or make a direct deposit (email for details)..

since the profit is so minimal, i am trying to keep the admin costs down..

To quote from the tabook:
These educational models of the ThinkPad notebook are available only to public or private K-12 (or higher) accredited
schools organized and operated exclusively for educational purposes for use by qualified students and/or teachers.
This model for education is for sale direct from IBM or through an Authorized Education Reseller.
The model or models for education are not available for resale to any other organization or individual.
It specifically says that the unit is not available for sale to individuals. What would this mean as far as trying to get warranty service on the unit?

Probably nothing. If you bought a model with a 3-year warranty at the end of your senior year, why would IBM refuse to honor the warranty?

Well, that is different, because in that case the unit would have been sold through the normal educational channels.

Also, I'd like to get a general consensus on the specs for this machine. I know everyone says the TABOOK is right, but it's a big purchase and I want to know we're all on the same page (since the web site is so completely inconsistent it's insane).

What are y'all expecting in terms of battery life? Weight?

According to the tabook, the weight will be 5.0 lbs. (2.3 kg), and the battery life will be "up to 4.5 hr".

is anyone concerned about availability? The web site used to say they would be out in May. It's been a while since they listed the T42 for sale. Are these things out in the wild yet? I'd hate for Bill's order to be back-ordered for months (like Apple tends to do).

i was quoted WITHIN 25 days from order..

ibm usually lets the ship dates slip from manufacturing "glitches" like too few of one needed but trivial part..

we shall see what we shall see..

I sent this same question in an email to Bill, but I'd like your input too.

Can IBM Thinkpad Protection be applied to the educational models with the EZ-Serve warranty?

From TABOOK on the 2373-3VU:
The 2373 has an EasyServTM,19 onsite pickup and delivery 3 year limited warranty
From http://www.pc.ibm.com/us/accessories/se ... n1575.html :
ThinkPad Protection is an extensive repair or replacement service covering unintentional damage that is caused by accidents. These accidents are generally not covered under the standard product warranty, warranty upgrades or other IBM extended service offerings. ThinkPad Protection service is delivered through an IBM Depot repair center via the IBM HelpCenter.
Should be no problem to apply this damage proteciton to the 2373-3VU right? for only $169 I think it's a pretty good idea.
