T42 to T43 advice...
i've came to a T43 with the following specs:
PM 750 1.86GHz
1GB RAM
14.1in 1024x768 LCD
64MB ATI Radeon X300
the others are all standards...
would this have a visible improvement in performance overall
does it worth if i cash on top like $100 trading my T42 (specs on signature)?
i know it's similar in processor speed and same memory for the video card but with a smaller screen... but like overall let's say if we have a exact same spec T43 compare to a T42, will the T43 outperform the T42 since i've read they have different motherboards?

I'd say keep your T42, considering you'll no see a big step in performance, not even with a faster FSB. And the XGA vs SXGA+ is a no brainer to consider to keep you machine. Just my opinion

It really depends on what you use your Thinkpad for. If you use it for serious workloads, then you will notice a boost in throughput performance; but for everyday tasks, you probably would not notice, especially with the lower resolution LCD.

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

IMO, you already have the better machine. The Mobility 9600 is a better video card option if you are into gaming. And the SXGA LCD is much better for screen real estate.
However, if you desire more battery life with better mobility and don't care about gaming, the T43 is worth considering. But I think having the SXGA screen on your T42 should allow you to sell for a really good price that should cover all costs for the T43.

I have a T43 and a T42 , performance wise the T43 is better even at gaming as it has more FSB and faster memory (533Mhz versus 333Mhz for the T42). Also the X300 is PCIe versus the R9600 AGP on the T42.
I say this as I have tried playing the same games on both machines and the T43 handels it better(To note my T43 has an 2.0GHz CPU versus a 1.7GHz CPU in the T42). Considering the noise factor off the T43 , its no problem I just use the Fan Control utility, so I dont notice it.
Build wise they are pretty much the same. But if you are not into gaming then the T43 is it but if you have a SXGA+ screen on your T42 then I would keep it for sure the XGA sucks in comparison to that.
Well I hope that helped alittle with your choice.
