Any trouble in Firefox 1.5.0.8 in windows XP lately?

#1 Post by gator » Wed Nov 22, 2006 2:14 am

Has anyone been experiencing trouble with Mozilla firefox 1.5.0.8 on windows xp? Over the last one week or so, I am having trouble with it - unable to open certain pages (for ex. amazon), script errors when I use gmail, and generally if feels a lot slow. I use adblock + session saver + IE tab extentions and nothing else.

I have an a clean system with no viruses and I use a firewall. I checked the system for spyware and did not find any. Some of my friends at school too reported some trouble with this, so I am guessing this is not just a trouble with my system.

Please share any information if you have had trouble with this version of firefox.

Hello, I was using that version for a long time but a month ago upgraded to the newest version 2. I love it. Have you considered upgrading? Good luck

I've never experienced any major trouble with FF 1.5 and I upgraded to the new 2.0 version when it came out. So far it works pretty well, except some of my old extensions don't work anymore.

There is an extension for scripts for FF, maybe you have that installed and it's causing the trouble.

Firefox 2 is decent... except I have yet to find the setting in About:Config to turn off Autocomplete. I HATE autocomplete.

Funny, the first thing I did was to check your location, thinking my ISP was simply having problems. But yes, I've been experiencing a general slow down in all my download activity. First I thought it was Fx 2.0, which I never liked. So I "downgraded" to 1.5.0.x Though it helped, yes, I have been experiencing slow browsing overall.

The settings are all tweaked, Fx is all optimized via about:config, etc. But for the last week, yeah everything seems a bit slow. Even on a clean system.

FWIW, Fx 2.0 brings nothing new on the table, and slows everything down. Switching tabs, general page loading, everything is slower. Sure I am not using the top of the line TP, but...anything I want Fx 2.0 to do, I can configure 1.5 with extensions and it is still faster than 2.0.

I have had a couple of glitches while using FF 1.5. Most of them were fixed with 1.5.0.8.You problem probably has something to do with you profile setup. It may be blocking a cookie for loading or some java script issue. I have has a few of the script errors you are referring too. Use the IE tab extension and you should be able to view thea pages just fine.
I have finally rejoined the dark side.

I know this thread is getting a bit old, but I also have problems with FF1.5.0.8. so I also upgraded to v2.0 and the same problems exist. Seems very slow to boot and surf. A few sites (my bank log-in) give 'Error Messages' and FF closes.

Never had this with v1.0pr so am seriously thinking of down-grading!

Seem to me that up-grades add more stuff and can get bogged down by themselves. Remember the days of DOS; it was a simple and fast os.

After some severe BSOD problems on my T23, I used V1.5 when I reinstalled. I never had a problem with V2.0 on another machine, but just a precautionary/testing measure. While it may not be founded, I think adblock plus gave me problems for some reason.

dsigma6,

Thanks for the tip regarding AdBlock Plus.

Unfortunately, that has not solved my 'FF has generated an error' message.

Gee, ain't it all a [censored]?

I did reinstall FF1.5.0.8, but only over itself. Have downloaded some instructions from Mozilla on what and where to completely uninstall (reg entries, etc) so will try that first before reinstalling 1.5.

If I get the same problems, will go back to 1.0pr. It worked well and was faster than 1.5.

I've been too lazy to upgrade to Firefox 2.0, so I've been using 1.5.0.8 for a while now. Works flawlessly on both my ThinkPad 770 and my desktop (built myself as a budget gaming system, AMD Athlon 64 3000+, 1 GB DDR 400 RAM, GeForce 6800 GS AGP..........). Both are running Windows XP Pro SP2.

Maybe it has to do with your firewall software (if you have any), or Java could be messing it up (Java, NOT Java Script). That happend to my dad. Firefox got really slow and would give fatal errors and connection time outs after he got the latest Java (sorry, I don't remember the version). He uninstalled Java and clean installed it. His T23 has been running Firefox 2.0 and no problems since.

Hope that helps.........

Perhaps Java is the problem. I did up-grade when the up-grade window opened, something I have never done with Java before.

2.0 and 1.5 are both crashing left and right on my T23, yet I've never had a problem on any other machine, including a second T23. :banghead:
