My friend it could be many things. What was the last thing you might have changed before this happened? Was it dropped or take a hard jolt? Any power outages or lightning strikes nearby? Give as much detail as you are capable of and it will help in resolving your problem on this list with so many excellent mates capable of helping you resolve your issue.

Have you tried booting with a CD? Report as much information as you can.

Hi,
I dont think any thing happened.. The laptop did not give me any indication of "dying". I did try and boot it through a Knoppix defender CD. Same problem..IT hanged. Some friends tell me there's a problem with the RAM. The only thing i can tell u is that the laptop was very slow. I had installed a few games like "rise of Nations". etc.. Hope it helps.

A couple of suggestions just to make sure all is well with the hardware:

1. Enable the extended boot (disable quick boot)
2. Run (if you can??) PC Doctor (the latest version pcd5setup_4329.exe is available for download from the IBM site)

If the hardware checks out OK then there is problem with the OS (corrupted initial files, virus, ??). If you can't even load Knoppix then I'm guessing one or more of your initial files (ntdetect, ntldr, boot.ini, msdos.sys) is/are stuffed.
Good Luck!

Yikes!! I don't really know either, but I do know it's not good! Do a search for "mup.sys" and you'll find some suggestions on how to recover but there are also suggestions that it may be a hardware (harddisk) issue. You should also download a copy of the ultimate boot CD to test and repair your files.
