More than 70degC with TP config

hi,
anything will be happen if i config the fan start to run on 70deg and above. with TP???

just wonder it would do any harm ?

Are you trying to save battery power or reduce fan noise? 70'C doesn't sound healthy for the thinkpad in long run.

i am trying to reduce the fan noise or in other words, don't want to let the fan working too hard.

Have you tried lowering the fan control program's set point to 60 deg C?

yes,
and it won't reach the 60degC to trigger the fan ON if i jack up my X60s.
Well, it is unlike my previous T43, underneath of the thinkpad will be very hot when it reach about 60degC, whereas for X60s is not.

Well, it is unlike my previous T43, underneath of the thinkpad will be very hot when it reach about 60degC, whereas for X60s is not.

Is it running at 60C even at idle? What power scheme are you using? And how much power is it consuming at that point (the battery information applet can show you that, as long as you are running on batteries).

Quite hot! Have you tried either NHC or RMClock to reduce the CPU voltages (which significantly reduces the heat)?

Arctic Silver would be another option to improve the cooling of the CPU.

well,
i am using Lowest CPU setting in the TP power manager.
Artic Silver would be a good option,
since a LV Processor is different from other processor, where should i apply the thermal grease

It's still between the CPU and the heat sink.

Using NHC or RMClock allows you to drop the CPU voltages further, reducing the heat some more. The power manager onlyy controls the CPU clock speed/multiplier, it doesn't adjust the voltages. NHC is pretty easy to work with, and they give you good instructions on how to find the optimal voltages for your case.

That looks like the bottom side. Those screw holes don't have anywhere to put your screwdriver!

If I'm correct, you'll need to look on the other side of the board where the heatsink is.

You'll be taking the heatsink off, cleaning the gunk that was there, and then apply a dab of arctic silver - like half of a grain of rice amount and use a credit card to make a nice flat surface.

Remember the smoother the heatsink and CPU, the less arctic silver is needed.
