changing smtp server with location profile ?
Hi all,
this is probably a FAQ, but is it possible to change the outgoing mail server (smtp) when changing network location profiles ?
I'm using thunderbird to read email.

Access Connections has an option to launch a program when connecting to a profile and Thunderbird has an option to launch with command line arguments. Combine the two and you have a possible solution.
Simply add an application launcher for Thunderbird with the profile you want to use as an argument. This implies that you will have to create a profile for each SMTP server that you want to use. Here is a link on how to do launch Thuderbird with a specific profile at the command line.

Note that phpBB does not like Wiki-style links and you need to use the entire link including the stuff after the parenthesis so you have to copy and paste the link, you cannot simply click into it.

I might be wrong, is an indentical workgroup name required on all computers to share files ?tomh009 wrote: Why do you need to change the workgroup (domain?) name? This one is not so easy ...
I have a desktop computer and a terastation at home to which I want to connect for file-sharing (samba). At home the workgroup is just called "Workgroup", but at work where I do the same thing the workgroup has another name.
Maybe the easiest solution is to rename the home workgroup to the same name as at work.

However, you don't need to have the same name as the other computers. Especially in a workgroup environment, all you lose is the ability to browse to the other computer. But if you type in \\ThinkPad or \\KotiPC\Tiedostot -- or even \\192.168.1.2 -- you can still get to the other computer to acess the files.
