A21m locks up with Firefox

#1 Post by Stargate199 » Thu Nov 23, 2006 8:41 pm

This is the most bizzare issue, but I am working on a friend's A21m and at some point, when you are using the right scroll bar to scroll through a webpage, the entire computer locks up completely. I don't know if anyone has this issue. The computer is a A21m with 700Mhz PIII with speedstep and 384MB of ram. I have tried two different Windows installations on two separate hard drives and this problem still persists. Internet Explorer does not have this problem. Any answers to this strange problem will be appreciated greatly. Thanks in advance.

Is this on the same laptop (the A21m)?

Also, what version of Firefox are you using?

I used the same A21m and the problem persists on all versions of Firefox

I had the same problem with my A22m, as well as a few other glitches and found this thread while searching for answers.

I hadn't done any cleanup work in quite a while, so I ran a registry cleaner, AdAware, Spybot and a virus scan and deleted some old junk and the problems went away. Oh, and I updated the video driver, but I think the problem was already fixed by then.

Sounds like you're way past this, but it's my $0.02 anyway....

Disable any extensions/add-ons/toolbars/themes or/and create a new profile from scratch.

I am having the exact same issue with a A20m right now! System completely freezes using firefox, I originally thought the same that it was when using the right scroll bar, but it just minutes ago froze after loading a web page and I never scrolled.

This is a fresh install of XP Pro and fresh install of Firefox with no add-ons/extensions.

I have not yet tried IE to see if this problem goes away. I have installed Opera browser and I will use this exclusively to see if it has the same problems.

hmm I have similiar problem on my T20. Its not only in Firefox.. but yes it happends mostly in Firefox during scrolling. I found out that it will freeze when CPU is switching from 566 to 700MHz..sometimes. Now Im trying to run with speedstep disabled...only 566MHz, no switching but CPU temp is really lower.. ca 50°C and... no freezes yet. So try this..

Just froze using Opera after hours of perfect operation. :? I will try disabling speedstep. There has to be a fix for this problem or the A20m will be gone very soon. This is a very annoying problem

I have the same issue with my A22m as well. I thought it was memory, but that didn't change with the new stick I installed.

I have found the while using SpeedFan if my system gets to 109F (on either HDO or Temp1) it will lock up much more frequently, to the point where it won't even boot until a cool down. Are there any programs that allow me to turn the fan on max at all times? The fan kicks in, but it's too late by that time.
