CPU load on t42/1.8 playing divx files?

wondering what people's experiences with divx on their 1.8ghz t42... mine is 50-60% load when playing divx files and that seems excessive. maybe something is wrong.

When playing a 640x480 clip encoded with divx 5, the windows task manager shows 20-35% of CPU load when the 1.7GHz dothan is running at 600MHz here. From the statement you can probably tell the percentage shown is relative to the current CPU clock speed.

If you are using codecs from divx.com, try ffdshow instead. It is far more efficient than divx 5.x codecs during playback. Running on battery in Max Battery power setting, ffdshow can still maintain a perfectly smooth playback on a 640x480 clip, while divx 5.x codec chokes every few seconds.

1.8 dothan at 600mhz playing a 512x288 XviD file

using Divx5 (from Dr. Divx) codec

BSPlayer shows 30-40% CPU

With a MKV file (can't figure out what it's encoded with... AAC sound, video not sure).... BSPlayer at 40-50%

When you said you are showing 20-35% load, is that 1) just the media player or total cpu load including all running processes and 2) with the ffdshow codec or divx codec?
