Try turning off the windows firewall or any other firewall just to check and see if it is blocking inbound ports.

Disable Symantec firewall, and retest it should work then.

Long term you'll need to change the settings within the Symantec firewall program. You'll want to add your local network address (generally 192.168.0.1 255.255.255.0) to the trusted networks.

Thanks.
But no success yet. Have not tried ip's yet

One connectig computer said " not enuf room on the server "

Last time that happened was on the T43P when I had a version of
Acronis True image Enterprise Server on it for cloning.
When I removed the program all went well.
Now I only use Acronis True Image 9.0 and Acronis disk directer
for partioning.

I did a stupid thing this week. I have three hdd cloned and was updateing to my progress on setting up the computer.
Stupid me I got the source and destination mixed up .
Woo nodo.
Now I know 2-1 not 1-2.

I deleted the fingerprint and client sercurity and then replaced Norton that came with Thinkpad with Norton 2006 as I had a five user disk.

All in all I think every thing is running well for my photo processing.
I can contact my other computers to get photo files when I need them.

I even got IBM ViaVoice 10 installed. That created a lot of exceptions in Windows firewall.
The onboard microphone works quite well with it.
The T7600 really speeds things up.

If anybody has any other ideas on the network please let me know.

As a one time Microsoft MVP I can say that if you where clearer on just what the exact problem is, the exact error message and number you are getting, and the things you have tried to do to solve the problem, you're much more likely to get useful information.

Have you disabled all firewalls and attempted to connect? Did it work? If you do connect then great we know where the problem is. Someone can tell you how to configure your firewall. If not then it is most likely the way you have your permissions configured.

In the mean time you might want to try the following page there is an excellent network troubleshooter by MVP Hans-Georg Michna. Take the time to go through it and it will usually pinpoint the problem area(s) - http://winhlp.com/wxnet.htm

Of course this could be many things. I agree with DAH. Having said that, the last time I had a one-way problem like this was because I had Cisco VPN client on the machine. The VPN was not established, however a Cisco VPN service was permanently running and blocked incoming network connections.

Also, since you mention a router, I would particularly check the subnet masks on your machines. I won't mention the obvious, oops, sorry I will, get a crossed cable and bypass the router for testing. Need to assign fixed IP-addresses for that though.

Thanks to all.
Sort of seems that I have not made headway yet.
However I still have commication, so I will live with that.

Seems that it is more complicated than I had thought.
I'm just slow but methodical.

But I will get the problem solved eventually.
