Dead 600X

#1 Post by Davemci » Fri Nov 24, 2006 5:56 pm

I picked up a 600X pretty cheap because it was dead. No power no lights...dead. The seller said it was a 500MHZ with 64Megs of RAM. It turns out to be a 650MHZ with 256 Meg, 12Gig HD, and a DVD. Cosmetically it looks prefect. I suspect it died young and has been in a closet ever since. Anyway, after taking it apart there's a blown Electolytic capacitor and what I believe is a voltage regulator (Fried so bad I can't identify it. It may be a tp8302 (Near VR5 stenciling). I doubt I can fix it, but was wondering if anyone knows of a source of cheap motherboards. It's a 30L2993. If I replace it with a motherboard from a 500MHZ will I loose the speedstep capability? I've found brand new replacement motherboards for $242.00 but that would be more then the price of a similar computer or even some T series.

Only cheap place I know of 600X motherboards is eBay. You could try posting a "wanted" in the Marketplace.
