When's a good time to buy?

#1 Post by crowdpuller » Fri Nov 24, 2006 9:15 pm

I am looking forward to buy a new laptop.
Not sure if I should wait for another couple of months or should I buy it not.

Comps I have rt now are NOT vistable capable, I mean they'kk work with vista, but in no way possible use it to max. capacity!

-which one is better t60 or t60p? Is it only the graphics card difference?

-is it better to call lenovo directly, someone mentioned not all their options are online?

-which warranty is better the onsite or depot?
-also are these warranty international

I am in Canada, but I'll be buying it from US and getting it shipped to a family.

Thanks for the help guys :)

This is going to be my first IBM... I have been a vaio fan ...but I guess its time to move on!

Depending on when you buy, you may actually be better off buying in Canada. The US sale prices expire on 11 December; Lenovo's promotional Canadian pricing through visaperks.ca is currently set to expire on 31 January. Check both options before ordering ...

Yeah but isn't that on select models only?
ANd that being said, I thought I was better of buying in states cuz you can get better options and larger discounts?

Like I said, its my first time for IBM/Lenovo... so not sure

Right now the US Thanksgiving sales is amazingly good.

But the Visaperks pricing isn't bad, either. Based on my experiments, it applies to most models, though there isn't quite as much flexibility as on the US. But enter through visaperks.ca, browse the models -- and you will see "aud=EA1VISA" carried through as part of the URL.

So when you are ready to buy, and have figured out what you want, price it out on both US and Canadian sides, and figure out what's the best deal.

Check international warranty here:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... arranty.vm

Onsite is generally considered better -- they send a tech to fix your ThinkPad -- but I don't know whether US onsite would be valid in Canada.

Call them... And you can ask them all the things you want to know directly in real time and get immediate replies. ;-)

crowdpuller,

I am in similar situration as you and I am from Canada too. I want Core 2 Duo, 7xxx cpu, 14" svga+, BT, 6 cell battery, fingerprint, and possibly wireless N. And I just could not find it in Canada. The closest molel is a 15" and I don't want that.

Looking into the US sales, I can customized a TP with C2D T7200 to exactly the above spec, and the final price is cheaper than similar configured Canadian model with ONLY T2500 cpu!! Also, you can only get pre-configured models in Canada. Very annoying !!

Right now it made sense both from the config and pricing standpoint to buy from US ( before Dec 11 ). Only one catch: you need to have a US shipping address and a US credit card.

Assuming you mean SXGA+, it looks like 2007-6QU and 2007-8JU would be close, just no fingerprint reader. The -6QU is C$2400 without extras (through visaperks).

I would call Lenovo Canada and ask them about getting the exact configuration you want. I believe they have additional flexibility beyond the web site.

Yes, I meant SXGA+ ( 1400X1050 ), thank you.

The similar configured PC in US sales website end up less than US$1400. That's pretty tough to match, even with EPP.

That's right. The thanksgiving sale is very attractive indeed. We'll have to wait and see if Lenovo Canada gives us a nic boxing day sale perchance ...

I think I am gonna hold up until begining of next year. I really wanna see how these notebooks get evolved.

Have about another term to finish. And then I can buy a new laptop. I'd say sometime around April/May.

I think I know for sure that I would get a thinkpad :)
