Wireless disconnects when I plug in or uplug from AC

#1 Post by Geoff_AZ » Mon Nov 27, 2006 3:12 am

I apologize in advance if this has already been answered. I had trouble formulating a search query and came up empty.

Every time I switch from battery to AC (or the other way around) I lose my wifi connection. I was using WZC but am now using the Access Connections, which has the same problem.

So, is there anything I can do to stop XP from dropping my wifi connection when switching to/from AC?

Thanks!

Edit: I should add that this is a T40 with XP SP2 and a Cisco WiFi card with firmware 5.41 and driver version 3.8.26.

I'm guessing this is somekind of a wifi-power management issue where the wifi-power levels are altered depending on what's supplying the main power. I can't find any setting in my adapter configuration that will do this ....?? Otherwise, the power supply to the card may be disrupted in the switch - check that the antenna cables are OK (not grounded) and the card is seated properly.
Cheers

you can upgrade your router. The router is the cause of the dropped link. When your system is unplugged it tells the router it's going into a low power state and the router should compensate, if it doesn't support or understand the request then the connection will drop.

The other option is to change the power options of your wifi card to Maximum Performance all the time.

I really appreciate the help, My thinkpad just had winxp installed and no factory programs. I downloaded Access connections and was able to adjust the settings in the power save mode tab to "low (best network performance)" and that solved this issue, thanks again for your help.
