600E Keyboard displays sub characters

#1 Post by PCWatchman » Mon Nov 27, 2006 7:41 pm

TP600E
I had a problem that forced me to do a setup/repair from XPPro CD. All goes well until screen prompting for Product Key. Keyboard displays the characters on the lower right of the M, J, K, L, :, U,I,O,P keys. ie, when I type K, it displays 2.

Help!

NumLock has been enabled for some reason. You can toggle this feature on/off by holding down the shift key while pressing the NumLk/ScrLk key. There should be an LED somewhere on the keyboard that looks like the number "1" surrounded by an arrow. When lit, the numbers on those keys will be generated. Quite useful for people who enter a large amount of numbers.

Thanks, rkawakami, but I believe I tried that. Maybe I'm mistaken, though. I actually finished the repair install by shutting down and restarting using a USB keyboard. It worked and let me enter product key accurately. Once XP loaded, everything worked fine.

I'll make note of solution you proposed in case I run into this again.
