Difference?? T42 14" SVGA+ vs 15" SVGA+ IPS

#1 Post by xth » Thu Sep 02, 2004 10:33 pm

Hi:

I'm planning to buy a T42, origianlly, I was thinking about 2378FVU, which is a 14" SVGA+; however, I'm also thinking of 23733XU, which is a 15" SVGA+ IPS.
I saw on some IBM page that it says 2378FVU has FlexView:

And I called IBM to ask if 2378FVU has FlexView, the guy simply says all T42 14" and 15" has FlexView now... (I doubted if this is really true)

Can anyone who bought 2378FVU comment on this please? (thanks for any help)

For th 15" screen what's IPS actually stand for? Is it worth going for, with the sacrifice of weight?! I travel constantly (like twice a month) and not sure if it's worth to go for a heavier weight, unless it's really worth it.

How good is FlexView, comparing to Sony's XBrite, Fujitsu's MVA, Toshiba's CrystalBrite, etc.??

Thanks a lot for any help! :)

Xth

I don't believe any of the 14" models have Flexview. The Flexview is similar to all the others you mentioned, without the glossy reflective surface. Some people prefer it without the glossiness that reflects glare and some people really like the way the glossiness makes the screen look. It's up to you. My personal opinion, glossy - more flash, anti-glare - more functional.

You are correct that no 14" IDTech panel is a Flexview, there are typos on the website scattered all around. The tabook will set this straight. But I would have a hard time being sure that I would've still ended up with my 15" T42 if a 14" Flexview panel existed  .

Thanks, guys, for the valuable information, especially to Flightvector!! I really appreciate it.
I ended up decided to get the 23733XU, which is the 15" FlexView on. Can't wait to have it by the end of this month :D

By the way, does anyone know what IPS stands for?!

Anyway, I'm happy with my decision. Thanks everyone! :o

Here is a decent explanation of what it is and how it works:

I have the 23733XU. It is a great machine. I'm very happy with my choice after about a month.
T42 2373-3XU - $1840 - She served me well for almost 5 years
T400 on order as of 11/18/09 - $1400 (including Intel SSD) - P8700, 4GB RAM, 80GB X25G2 SSD (I upgraded), 3470 256MB
T420s - loaded, still in use as secondary machine
T440p - loaded, primary
