z60t opening office documents

#1 Post by rdragon » Wed Nov 29, 2006 7:11 pm

hi,

i have used many t series in the past (t21, 23, 30, 40, 41) and never had any problems and enjoyed using them. now i'm using a z60t and running into an odd issue and was wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

when opening an office document by clicking on the file (word, excel, etc...), it literally takes up to 1 min looking for the document. however, if i open word/excel first then go file/open and browse to the document it opens right away.

i have only installed the office suite and no other apps. this just started happening approx after 2 months of purchase. any insight would be appreciated.

Are you sure that's not related to the Office startup time? What if you have Word/Excel running in the background, and then double-click a file to open it?

Opening a file when Word is already open will be faster because Word is already started and loaded into memory.

does it take that long to load/startup office? i have never experienced such a lag with other pc's. i'm sure that may contribute to some of the lag, but i have a feeling something else is going on with my laptop.

is it possible there is something wrong with the hd?

You might also want to see what your antivirus settings are. I know I ran into an issue where Norton was scanning every office document when launched. After I corrected that, it was back to normal speeds.

I too have had this problem after installing the unmanaged corporate version of Symantec antivirus provided at my workplace.

There is a known issue with Microsoft Office... I have encountered it numerous times on machines with different configurations... Do you have mapped network drives?

I've seen an issue with an unavailable network printer delaying word opening. Perhaps check your default printer isn't a network one?

As the other guys said... an Antivirus is the only other thing I can think of too.
