X24 Wireless card and router question.

#1 Post by menoknow » Thu Nov 30, 2006 8:17 am

The used X24 I bought came with a Linksys Neetwork PC Card WPC11. I bought, but can return, a Linksys WRT54G Broadband Router. Are these compatible? Should I (can I?) get a different model wirless PC card for the x24? I will only be using this for surfing, email, etc... so super high speeds for downloads may not be all that important. My other computer is a 6 year old Imac G3... so that might give you all an idea of where I am at. Thanks.

What makes you think they might not be compatible? Wireless is a IEEE standard so as long as they at least do what they are supposed to do they should be compatible.

Everything you already have should work just fine together.

Now you'll have to find a friend to help configure everything optimallly.

Good luck.

The WRT54 is a G router (54 mps) and the WPC is a B card (11 mps). The router will automatically step down to the B speed. For no more than they go for on eBay, I'd get a G card. 11 mps is faster than a T1 line so you might not see a big improvement but it's a cheap and easy speed increase.

Thanks for the replies. I'm sure I'll have more questions about this laptop but so far so good. Thanks again.
