Banner ads on eBay

#1 Post by dsigma6 » Thu Nov 30, 2006 9:55 pm

I don't know if I'm just having a momentary lapse of reason (ie. worst album in Pink Floyd's arsenal), but did this just happen today or something?

I'm just trying to do a simple search, and dead center up top is a flashing, obnoxious banner ad...

As if they weren't bringing enough money in from the fees. :x

I've just run several of my favorite searches and none of them resulted in any banner ad at the top of page (or anywhere else). I had to do this in my personal T23 (not the work A31 since I've put some of the more common sites into my 'hosts' file). Can you tell where they're coming from (i.e., right-click the ad and check the properties)?

When I first went back to eBay, there were no adds...Then I realized I had adblock plus turned on.

After refreshing, I got ads for monster.com, HP, mortgages, etc.

The monster ad is coming from http://pn1.ard.yahoo.com with the image hosted at http://spe.atdmt.com ...not that it matters, right? Don't click on the links; one takes you to yahoo, the other to a blank page. Adblock plus does a darn good job of keeping this stuff completely unseen.

yes, and it is darn irritating to keep on pointing your cursor to the close tab to close the ads.

I wish they had an X to close them, but they don't. Most of them are made with flash, so in addition to the annoyance, it's also a resource hog (at least for a T23). But again, adblock plus is a great extension for firefox, give it a try if you haven't.
