Search power
Search power
Why does the forum search engine only allow searching on one word at a time? Yes, you can put in more than one word but it always looks for them alone, even if you put quotes around them.
I tried to find information as to what P meant in T42P, etc. I searched on "P model." I got over 6100 hits. All I looked at were on only the word "model" and gave up on looking for instances of "P model."
This has nothing to do with the possibility that there may be no instances of "P model." If there are none it should come up 0 instead of 6100.
Is phpBB still in the dark ages?

Sometimes you just have to try several search strings to hit upon the right one. Through trial and error, this one seems to be fairly useful
what difference between t42 t42p
Make sure you check the "Search for all terms" option and restrict the search to the T4x conference.

At least 1 of the above messages has an incomplete location. Please complete the location section of your ThinkPads.com personal profile, as Admins require! See http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?p=21984
Unfortunately searching is not one of phpBB's strong points. Even version 3 has the same search capability -- no quoted strings, and no ability to search subject lines only.
So I fear that what we have will be what we have for quite a while.
That said, you can google for a complete phrase, and just include site:thinkpads.com as part of the query. Works pretty well ...

It might be useful before red lining a user to note that a user doesn't know about administrator's location demands unless he goes into the profiles area to see them. Neither the so called FAQ nor the "Rules of the Road" mention it.
Not having any reason to go there and carry on about myself I saw no such demands. Perhaps you might consider putting your demands for personal information up front somewhere if you are going to get all upset about it and jump on a new user in red print.
On the other hand, if you merely want to chase me away just say it straight out and I'll be glad to go somewhere so you won't have to have me around to damage your equanimity.

PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY
No one is tryin to chase anyone away. This is from the REGISTRATION PAGE that all are supposed to read before joining Bill Bolton did not make this up. Moderator's are not here to harass user's, new or old.
7. A word about the "LOCATION" field..
.
READ THIS PART CAREFULLY !
.
Please enter at least the city and/or state that is your home or current location. Earth, USA, your telephone number area code and Southern Hemisphere, while interesting and fun for you, do not respect the BBS or other users. A location shows other users what time zone you are located in and thus will facilitate a faster answer to your problem. ALSO, your location tends to build a thinkpad owners community. Any "silly" location will delay your activation and could result in your account not being activated.

JimL, Kyocera is correct...no one is trying to chase anyone away. Bill's signature has been around for awhile. Also, as NS commented, Bill's post was in response to NS, not you.
Also, for the record, the location portion of the registration, as it stands now, has only been around since May/June after the Singapore attacks. The OP in this thread joined in Sept. 05...which is well before this change.
I was going to split this conversation away from this thread, but decided to leave it, so that it will hopefully help explain it for future reference.
We may now return you to your regularly scheduled topic....
