Dead Pixel Exchange?

#1 Post by Evo22 » Sat Dec 02, 2006 7:25 pm

I got my T60 yesterday, and it has a dead pixel. Ran the 'undead pixel' program... but no luck.

Will lenovo exchange the computer for 1 dead pixel? what is there return policy (i might hold off on a computer till january)?

thanks

Aren't you allowed to return any new computer within 20 days, no questions asked? I think I had 30 days when I ordered mine in June.

lenovo return policy:
you can return your machine if and only if it is unopened.
Products returned may be subject to a restocking fee equal to 15% of the price paid. You agree to pay the restocking fee as Lenovo specifies.

are you sure it's a dead pixel? (white pixel), or the color of the pixel is Red, Green or Blue?

Here is the return Policy:
For a new Product that is unopened and still in it's sealed package, you may return it to Lenovo for any reason within 21 days of the date of invoice and obtain a refund or credit.
You must return the new Product, including all documentation and accessories, intact and in its unopened original packaging, to a Lenovo designated location by the date Lenovo specifies.
Products returned may be subject to a restocking fee equal to 15% of the price paid. You agree to pay the restocking fee as Lenovo specifies. Products purchased through the Lenovo Employee Purchase Program are not eligible for return.

Please try this:

with a damp cloth press using your fingernail against the stuck pixel on your LCD. Keep the pressure for about 15-20 secs. The pixel should be gone.

If that does not help, turn off your laptop. do the same procedure as above and then while pressing the LCD turn on your laptop, keep the pressure for another 15-20 seconds. Voila pixel!

I end up rubbing my red pixel with my finger when it pops up. I had a heck of a time with Lenovo a few months back (detailed in some post in this forum somewhere) when I sent it off to EasyServ--an experience I'd inflict on no person.

I suggest sending it back or DIY fixes.

It won't be fixed for just one dead pixel per the IBM/Lenovo implementation of the ISO 13406-2 Standard.

Unless it meets or exceeds the pixel limits in that matrix, Lenovo will be very reluctant to exchange it for just one dead pixel.

You might be able to convince them to give you a little break, however, if you are able to talk to one of the reps about it. :)

Lenovo recently changed the 30 day return policy to 21 days and has made it much more restrictive. I think they don't want you to open the box and that there is a 15% restocking fee, but you should read the fine print. There was some reference to it on David Churbuck's blog as I recall.

I doubt it. I've never heard of anyone talking a rep into taking a return on the basis of 1 bad pixel. The sad fact of the matter is that it is no longer worth buying any ThinkPad direct from Lenovo. The buyer ends up waiting for the machine to be built, and has a satisfaction policy that is little (if at all) better than what a third party reseller would give.

Having been burnt by dead pixels before, I won't be buying a ThinkPad from Lenovo anytime soon.

Right now, I am really not satisfy with Lenovo order process taking me more than 2 weeks, and I am still waitting it. Also, I am not satisfy with Lenovo return policy, If I dont open box , how do I know if my laptop is good ? 15% restocking fee is recidous in the U.S.

This is not nice.
There are many members here whose native languages are not English.
Show some respect and think about you own second language, if any.

Maybe you should cancel the order and pick up a laptop from local stores. I am more or less disappointed with my purchase too.

But I know, the price of T60 now is too attractive to resist.....

yea, the price is good on Lenovo.
Local store only knows how to take out more money from you.

IBM / Lenovo has gotten too high and might, however, they won't last long treating customers like they are as of late.

I have a new T-60 and it's not bad, however, I can see the quality has gone down and so has the service.

The next time around, I will move on to another Notebook manufactuer as there is no shortage.

Lenovo, wake up or loose your customer base !

Just my 2 cents
