Static noise z61m duo 2 gh
Static noise z61m duo 2 gh
brand new z61m, not even month old...
so here is the deal, any help will be appreciated
when running on battery, some kind of static sound seems to be coming out from the processor area (left upper corner of the base)
very annoying and low pitch,
- does not seem to be the fan
+ when its sitting in BIOS no sound is emitted,
+ switching profiles does not help,
+ when the fan actually starts going i can hear it go, and the static is till there
- laptop plugged in, nothing... its silent, no static
its a duo 2 t7200, 3 year protection plan, should i be contacting lenovo/ibm about it ? its kinda a impossible to work in the environment like that, after a while it gets so annoying that i rather look for the outlet instead of working off the battery
thank you for your help

Go into the system BIOS and see if there is a setting for USB speeds. If there is a setting, change it from legacy compatibility mode to high-speed mode. This trick works for Napa platform Dell systems -- it might work on the ThinkPad as well since the chipset is the same.
Homebuilt PC: AMD Athlon XP (Barton) @ 1.47 GHz; nForce2 Ultra; 1GB RAM; 80GB HDD @ 7200RPM; ATI Radeon 9600; Integrated everything else!
it's the CPU power management feature...
I had this same problem. There is an easy fix. I wrote the solution in the "Noise" section of my review:

Have you tried simply toggling the power settings for it through the Power Manager before trying to go after the CPU power managemet through the BIOS directly?

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

I am actually a bit confused by all the seemingly identical settings.
There is the setting for CPU power management in PM, and also one inside BIOS.
Which overrides which?
I'll try disabling power management within the Power Manager. Same question tho, does it affect battery life?
Hehe, jsut a bit lazy to test it out.

Can I simply swap out my T5500 CPU in my 1953CTO T60 with a T5600? Or my T2400 core duo in my 2623D6U T60?
