Problems with Software Update on T40

#1 Post by atct86 » Sun Dec 03, 2006 6:55 pm

My Software update has always worked. I have been trying it latley and I click all the downloads, and they seem to download, install, and then restart.

Then when i restart, and re-run the application the same updates are there.

Does anyone have any idea why they are not working?

You have been burned by a bad install package of PC Doctor 5 that Lenovo did not test before distributing.

I sincerely hope that you have a backup from before you installed PC Doctor 5.

I had to reload an image backup that was 10 days old to fix mine. Others spotted the problem quickly when they discovered that Add/Remove Programs was screwed up, then came to the forums to discover that they could use a System Restore point from before the PC Doctor 5 install to return their laptop and it's registry entries to normal. I think others have started over by reloading from the Recovery CDs. Lenovo support at one time was telling folks to keep using Software Installer to re-install everything that it wanted to .... that simply did not work .... it just caused more re-boots and more Restore points to be created which quickly resulted in having no Restore points available from before the bad PC Doctor install. From the other thread, I believe that everyone with no Restore point from before the bad install was forced to either reload from an image backup or use the recovery CDs (after backing up all personal files first). Good luck.
