T30 Boot Problem

#1 Post by Pooh » Tue Dec 05, 2006 2:59 am

Hello all, Help needed!!

I have a problem with my T30. When I push the power button, the laptop powered on, the green lamps blinks and I can see that display is on. The display remains black and I can see that the HD does not work. :(
Anyone have ideas?

Thanks

try opening the memory compartment, sticking some paper between the module and the cover, then screwing it back on so that the paper pushes the module inwards.

it won't fix the problem, but should get the machine back to working condition. good luck!

Thank you, danage
I tried it already it didn’t work.
I also tried to take of all of the parts one by one and to see if it changes something in its behavior and changed the bios battery.
Nothing changed. :(
Thank you anyway!

Sounds kinda similar to my problem. Could you explain more about the problems you're having, like did u see the ibm sign at startup or the windows loading screen?

Hi codak

No usually no ibm sign and no windows.
Sometimes if I move the comp from place to place it starts to boot but for very short time. Usually it stuck during boot process.

You mentioned your hard drive is not working. That usually causes problems.

Hi
I tried it. I checked the Mother Board for lose inductors and even found one.
I soldered him back to the MB bit it didn't resolve the problem :(
If any one have any ideas please give them to me cause I am starting to think to throw this thinkpad away :)

if you can, try re-soldering the ram banks.

Hello ianf

For the matter effect I have two bad T30 both have almost the same symptoms.
I tried what you suggested and on one of them it did work and on the second one it didn’t.
Anyway, in the laptop that I fixed thanks to your advice the problem was the inductor. If you are looking on the MB then it was the inductor closest to the processor slot.
Thank you very much for the good advice.
I will take photos later to show to everybody where the problem was.
Maybe it will help somebody else.

Hi ianf

I am not quite sure what’s the problem with the second T30.
I will continue working on the problem.
If any conclusion will be reached I will most definitely post it here.
Thank you again.

Hi,

Hope you don't mind me commenting here Pooh but I have the same issue with a T30. I read somewhere else about someone finding what looked like corrosion on the system board underneath the RAM slots. I have found exactly the same thing!

Just wanted to register this as one reason for a non booting T30. I tried to clean the area affected but no joy.
