Thinkpad A22M LCD issues...

#1 Post by eggdashure » Tue Dec 05, 2006 12:52 pm

Hello,

New to the Forum, thought I might post and get some insight.

Story so far:
Last month my HD crapped out on me, and one of the sticks of RAM followed as well. I promptly put in an order to NewEgg for a new HD and a little upgrade in RAM. Now, the question concerns my LCD which was acting funny prior to this.

Basically, what is happening is when I turn the computer on, if I move the screen into a certain angle everything works fine. If it is moved, or bumped, the screen turns white and garbled until I turn it back to that magic angle. Sometimes it won't reset until after a cool-off period.

Anyway, I thought it seemed like a cable issue and ordered a new video cable from E-bay and installed it. The issue doesn't happen as often, but the it is still present. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Matt

Ok,

So I've been bumming around in this forum and found a similar issue where someone said the screen was going white. They were advised to push all around the LCD and see if that corrected anything, which it did, and sometimes does for me. They made mention that when they ordered a new mobo from a different system they installed an inverter that came with it and that corrected the problem. Could the inverter be a possibility? What does the inverter do anyway?

I would first off try an external monitor just to make sure the problem is with the screen.

As for the inverter it basically generates about 1KV at some tens of KHz A/C to drive the backlight. So, if the inverter "goes" the whole screen will be affected and it shouldn't be held responsible for "garbled" images. If the image itself is being affected and you've replaced the cable, that leaves the LCD, the connectors and the graphics chip. You'll have to check the external image to isolate the culprit.
Cheers
