access connections 4.21 how to turn on power wireless radio?

T30 here, just installed a intel pro wireless 2915 abg card, installed driver and running good thru windows..
i installed hotkey driver, acces connections,
but i want to get the signal strength indicator working on access connections.. but when i click on power on wireless radio, nothing happens.. then i click on find WLAN and it says THE WIRELESS RADIO IS POWERED OFF, DO YA WANNA POWER IT ON?. I click yes but nothing happens.. i installed the hotkey driver but i dont know how to get this working.. can anyone help me? i plan to put in a bluetooth card. so i need the fn+f5 working to turn the wireless signal and bluetooth on and off..

so basically how do ya turn on the wireless radio?
and how do i get the fn+f5 working?

there are so many threads on this, im lost on how to fix this sucker..

is this my fix?
You must follow the order, otherwise it won't work.
Download, but do not install the following items from the Lenovo website (not intel).

Intel Driver
Hotkey Driver
ACPI Power management driver
Access connections

Follow these steps.
1. Using the control panel, uninstall access connections and intel wireless.
2. Reboot.
3. Install ACPI power management driver.
4. Reboot.
5. Install Hotkey driver.
6. Reboot.
7. Install Intel driver.
8. Reboot.
9. Test Fn+F5. You should now be able to toggle on and off the wireless device.
10. If #9 works, reinstall access connections.

Unable to connect to the selected wireless network. You may need to configure your system to support the authentication method that is in use . Contact your network administrator..


i just installed a intel pro 2195 abg in my T30, installed hotkey driver, thinkvantage access connections. and the intel driver.

it sees the signal but cant connect to it, and get the above message ..

the connection in windows is good, but trying to connect thru Access Connections..

its gotta be somethin simple, do i change something in the driver options?

got the thinkvantage wireless signal indicator fully green but still cant connect,

i see a strong signal in access connections the click connect, it almost does then says cant do it. would you like to fix it now? , i clikck yes and then it says,
WINDOWS WIRELESS CONFIGURATION IS NOT ENABLED ..
but how do i do that?


this only works if i have USE WINDOWS TO CONFIGURE MY WIRELESS NETWORK SETTINGS enabled (selected)in the network connection

so i tried unselecting it and try access connections but still dont connect thru acces connections

Have you got any security settings enabled (router or 'puter) that you skipped answering in the "connection" window?

Have you upgraded your Windows XP to Service Pack 2? If you do, you would have to reconfig your route / Access conection to use WEP encryptions.

yep the security is off and i have sp2
still cant get it to connect
hhmmm.....what could it be , do i change anything in the driver options? besides disbling windows from controlloing wireless, i trie that, any other suggestions? thanks for responding

It's late downunder and I'm a bit sleepy so this might sound a bit daft, but have you setup a legitimate Wireless Network Connection (Start; Connect To; Show All connections - is there a valid "Wireless Network Connection setup?). Check also: Right Click "Wireless Network Connection"; Properties; Configure; Advanced; what is the state of check box on "Wireless device off" ?

yes, i tried unselecting allow windows to control wireless... but still cant get it connected. access connections sees the signal but cant connect ...still says

Many thanks for the posting of Tue Dec 05, 2006 2:47 pm, Post subject: not sure if this will fix it... The 10 steps worked for me! I had been really frustrated, reloading my ThinkPad X41 four times in the past week, desperately attempting to get my wireless connection restored.

A few clarifying notes re: the steps:

1. I uninstalled access connections via Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs/ThinkVantage Access Connections, and uninstalled intel wireless via Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager/Network adapters/Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2915ABG Network Connection/Action/Uninstall.

3. I didn't find an ACPI power management driver in the Lenovo website, but did find and downloaded a Power Manager and SATA Power Manager driver.

3, 5, 7, 10. Installing the drivers involves 2 steps: a) Executing the downloaded driver programs, and b) Running the setup.exe programs in the folders created in c:/DRIVERS from a).

I'm still at a loss as to why I suddenly lost my wireless power on ability last week (just in time to be stuck without wireless for the Denver blizzard -- Murphy's Law!). I thought it was because of an automatic Windows XP download. I got the wireless power on to work after recovering with my system restore CDs. However, I lost the wireless power on again after installing software that I had installed and used before. Even more frustrating, I lost the wireless power on again after yet another clean install and not applying any Windows updates or adding software -- one minute it was working, then after, it wasn't. Fortunately, through all this, somehow I maintained the connection I had already established before losing the power on, so I had the ability to connect as long as I didn't move.

Anyway, thanks again for the 10 steps -- it's kept me from running out tomorrow to buy a Mac.

Sigh. I gave up, as this is not working for me. Somewhere on Lenovo's support site was an entry alluding to a shared library messing up things.

It was kind of nifty looking and all, but as I don't change locations that often, I couldn't justify the enormous memory requirements and spurious background processes of AC. The only thing I want to do is Fn+F5 to disable the wireless hardware instantly. And I couldn't even get it working after Step 9.

Thanks a lot for posting what worked for you, though. As seen, it helped a fellow TP'er.
