WIFI hangs after some time of inactivity

#1 Post by t43er » Tue Dec 05, 2006 3:11 pm

Hi guys,

I'm having this problem that after sometime of inactivity i.e surfing net, my wifi will just hangs. The only way I can get it to work is to repair the connection. The funny thing is that when the connection hangs, the wireless icon on taskbar still indicates that I'm connected! I've updated to the latest wireless driver which is 10.5.1.0 API but still can't solve the problem. My laptop is a t43 model no 2687duu with 2915abg wireless card. Hope you guys can give me some opinion. It's quite annoying to keep on repairing the connection. Thanks.

What kind of network architecture do you have? How is the router utilization when the network hang occurs? What's the power management setting do you use on your wifi card?

If there are someone also use your network/router when you have network problems. It might not be your computer that's causing the problem. One of the typical examples is that someone might be using network load-intensive applications/protocols like p2p or real-time online games which could produce network package storm. The result is that even your router's processor is working hard. It's just not fast enough to process your network request in time and that's when the network hang occurs(no response).

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. How do i check the network architecture and the router utilization? The power management setting that I've set for my WIFI card is maximum perfomance.

I think the problem is with my router because this doesn't happen when I'm using the uni's wireless. The problem occurs everytime when I'm not sufring or downloading. We've agreed that no one should be using p2p apps during normal time, therefore I think it should be other reason that caused me to hang. Weird thing is that my friends are not having this problem. Their WIFI adapter is 2200abg. Also if I'm downloading using p2p, I won't have the problem of disconnection. It's quite silly that the router that I'm using is the belkin wireless g plus high speed mode which is supposed to able to take high bandwith usage.
