T43 Issues w/ Hotsync following TCP/IP Reset

I had wireless "issues" which were resolved after I ran XP TCP/IP Repair -- which I used to Reset my TCP/IP and also repairing the Winsock.

However, since I ran that program, I am getting the following error message whenever I run Hotsync from Palm:

The HotSync Manager was unable to initialize the TCP/IP connection socket. Pleasecheck your Network Configuration from Window Control Panel. Make sure you have a TCP/IP network component installed and configured correctly.

I'm able to sync using the cable, but the infrared option is gone.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated!

If Sync by wire works, then the basic structure appears to be working. Check in Device Manager that your infrared port is still working, and if so, try to delete the partnership and set it up again. ... JD Hurst

Device Manager says that the IR port is still working. You lost me on the "delete the partnership" part however...could you expand on that?

When you set up an iPAQ or a Palm Pilot (if I recall correctly) you establish a partnership between the Hot Sync and the device. That is to say, the mobile device knows what it is going to talk to (the computer). I know the iPAQ (my current device) has a partnership, and I recall the Palm Pilot did as well. Sometimes resetting this identifier can solve problems. Be sure all the data you want is on the computer in case you must completely reset the Palm Pilot.

Also, have you opened up your Local Area Connection screen (click on the double computer icon on the lower right taskbar) and click on Properties. Be sure that the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is checked.

If I am not mistaken, you can click on the Hotsync icon in the notification area (lower right), and choose the settings you need. Make sure the settings are correct for Infrared transfer. You may need to check and enable file and printer sharing (not sure). [Personally, I only occasionally use the Hotsync feature to help my wife and daughter with their Palms. I do not own a Palm myself.]

Yes, I Hotsync my Palm Z22 (by infrared) and if you right click the Hotsync icon you have to have both Local USB and infrared checked to use both those. I also have file and printer sharing turned off as I am the only computer in the house. Also, it doesn't hurt to shut down your Hotsync program and restart it after a reboot; that has solved issues for me too.
