:D I think the more we bash Moduslink the more satisfaction we get.

Will the box it's shipped in fit through a typical size mail slot in a door? I'd hate to have mine "walk off."

What da ya know my status changed to "POP/COA validated" and it only took 3 faxes and 4 emails. Just think, in 4 to 6 weeks they'll actually ship my upgrade via mexp (MickeyMouse Express..sorry Walt). I might even get it before sp1 is released. Do you realize that if you crossed the L in Moduslink you'd get Modustink.

My visa was charged on March 11 but the order's keep saying:
Order Number : xxxxxxxxxxx
Order Status : Order received
Shipping Date :
Carrier : Standard
AWB# :
God knows who received it.

Before that the status changed like this:
1. COA validated.

2. COA/POP validated.

3. Order Sent to back office.

4. Order received.

Mine too. But my visa has not been charged yet.

Those moduslink people always emailed me back with nonsense every time I asked them about this.

Different DVD Media?!

#78 Post by twilleyj » Thu Mar 22, 2007 10:05 am

Hey Techgurl,

You said your DVD "Came in a nice DVD box too. "
Mine didn't. (see post above)

You got a box!?!
Was it a Microsoft box? Like one of those fancy boxes with a curved corner?

I feel like I got shafted.
I wonder why people are receiving different media?
From all I've heard of Modustink, I'm not surprised.

I don't know why you didn't get the box. Mine is a nice dvd box with a book inside.

I would be glad you got it.

I went through hell to get mine. I would not do it again it was a big waste of time for me.

I just got my DVD. It is just a black/white lenovo disc. No box or book.

Does anyone know if this "upgrade" disc can install vista cleanly, not requiring a previous XP install? Since there were reports at the retail upgrade disc needs XP to be installed first.

Edit: Mexp is "MailExpress", nothing related to disney, sorry guys.

There is a fairly thorough blow-by-blow log of my experience with MSTUPVISTANA. Your millage may vary but it took 56 days from a good "POP" sent to delivery to my door. This is not counting the weeks that MSTUPVISTANA didn't respond that I had fill sent in invalid info. FIFTY SIX DAYS, so as the saying goes, don't hold your breath. But as in my case, it does eventually arrive.

I hope this will smooth a few troubled brows, in the least will let breath bit bit more free.

I got my 'Lenovo' DVD for Vista Business today. It was a good surprise as my status on moduslink never changed from "order approved" to "order shiped" :P

Now time to wait for new bigger hard drive to come and play around with dual boot config.

Anyone : Will the key for 32-bit version that came from upgrade work with 64-bit media I buy from somewhere else ?

Thanks,

You guys are lucky to have your orders received.

Upon contacting Modulsink about my order I got this reply.

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your interest in the Upgrade Redemption Program.

Shipping timelines vary by manufacturer. You should receive your
Microsoft Windows Vista or Microsoft Office Vista software within 4-6 weeks.

Regards,
The Upgrade Redemption Center

I may be wrong, but I think that the Vista DVD has all the information needed to install any version of Vista. It is the key number that determines what gets installed.

I called Microsoft for alternate 64-bit media and they say cannot give one to me because my vista business is given by Lenovo.

So I call Lenovo and they say lenovo does not offer any 64-bit versions (atleast not as a part of upgrade redemption).
but I think that the Vista DVD has all the information needed to install any version of Vista. It is the key number that determines what gets installed.
To install a 64-bit vista version you definitely need a different media. I might try my last option of ordering 64-bit vista business DVD from CDW for 28$ without any key (media only) and hope that my current key that came with 32-bit version works.

Okay, I have a few things to say about the previous posts.

First, I think that the install key should install the x64 version if you have the media. My basis for this is that I have Vista Ultimate Retail and it has both 32-bit and 64-bit dvds, yet there is only one key. Although, this could be for only the retail versions and not the OEM key we have, so I'm not 100% sure.

Also, to answer my own question, I installed Vista with the Lenovo DVD and the Lenovo Key last night and it worked fine. The harddrive was wiped clean before the install started, so there was no trace of the previous Vista install or any of the XP install. Therefore, you can do a clean install of Vista by booting the DVD and you don't have to install it while in XP. This is cool :>

OK, then probably all the 32 bit versions are on the same DVD but it is still the key that determines which version you get.
This is how the "Anytime Upgrade" works. They sell you a new key number, you enter the new key number, put in the DVD and it upgrades you to a different version.
Actually it has kind of been like this ever since 2000 came out. All the files were on the cd but there were certain files that determined which version it would install.

Windows 2000 uses:

CDROMSP4.TST
Required for All Versions. Ident File for SP4 Windows 2000 Builds.

CDROM_NT.5
Required for All Version

CDROM_IA.5
Advanced Server Ident

CDROM_ID.5
Datacenter Server Ident

CDROM_IP.5
Professional Ident

CDROM_IS.5
Server Ident

Windows XP uses:

Windows XP Home Edition
WIN51IC
WIN51IC.SP1
WIN51IC.SP2

Windows XP Professional Edition
WIN51IP
WIN51IP.SP1
WIN51IP.SP2

Windows XP Media Center and Tablet Edition
WIN51IP2

Windows 2003 uses:

WIN51
Required for ALL Versions

WIN51IA
Enterprise Edition Ident

WIN51IB
Web Edition Ident

WIN51ID
Datacenter Edition Ident

WIN51IS
Standard Edition Ident

Microsoft probably could have done the anytime upgrade all along.
