I put it up on ebay last night, but someone from Nigeria tried to scam it out of my hands so I figure I might try here before trying eBay again..

[edit] it's back up on ebay now.. see last post for URL[/edit]

It was purchased on Oct 25, 2006 and carries a 1 year warranty from CDI. It no longer crashes on startup / cold conditions since I've put the ram back to a matching pair of 256mb modules.

It is a 2682-NU2 model. It has been upgraded (see below).

This R40 has been upgraded to a Pentium 4-m processor (which enables SpeedStep to lower power consumption). With the two batteries (14 cells combined max capacity of 94Wh) it CAN last up to 6.7 hours, calculated on an average power consumption of 14W with Wifi on and screen brightness set to low.

I haven't yet installed the P4-m because I just got this machine back as exchange for the last one that was crashing.

A printed copy of the Hardware maintenanace Manual is included and shows you how to disassemble the R40 for upgrading and parts replacement. A list of parts is printed in the manual for easy ordering of replacement parts.

Stock specs:
1.8Cel/20GB/512MB/14.1"

List of upgrades:

* 80GB hard drive (stock is 20GB)
* A nearly brand new Ultrabay battery.
* Includes a Targus Carry Case!
* Extra AC Adapter (2 total)
* 2.2GHz P4-m (not installed yet, can be installed)

Main battery capacity is approx 22Wh (design capacity is 57.6Wh)
Ultrabay battery capacity is approx 34Wh (design capacity is 34.00Wh)

With both batteries installed, I have approximately 2h30 - 4h of usable time (wifi on, screen brightness medium)

Estimated shipping costs: $40 to $60, depending on location. I can ship international. I give preference to shipping methods that are trackable and insured. If you choose a shipping method that is not trackable or insured, then no return is accepted.

No, the alloys only come on the higher trim levels 8)

If anyone is wondering about the wallpaper though, it's from Lenovo, it was a bimonthly calendar they put out for holidays last year I think (or this year?)

I just removed the calendar with photoshop and the word Lenovo. I put IBM Thinkpad on one version but I lost it when I erased everything and forgot to back it up :)

BTW: Price is negotiable on this one, like if you don't need the P4-m, or the 80GB drive... though who wouldn't :D

Upgraded the CPU now.. running at 2.2GHz. Running nice and cool with the Arctic Silver 5 applied ;)

Runs cooler than stock and uses less power AND it's faster too.

I've decided to get a new laptop for Christmas (MBP or Thinkpad Z series) so it's got to go.

I've put it up on eBay now since it doesn't appear to be much interest in it for the last few weeks.

Starting bid at $99 US :)
