How big a harddisk can I put into my T40

#1 Post by koden » Fri Dec 08, 2006 2:53 am

I have got a 80GB from a friends T43 and he got mine 30 GB from T40.
But he now gets the 2010 error and therefore I will give him the disk back.

But I need a bigger disk.
So I have to one anyway...
How big can I get the disk????

You have to look for a ATA-6 drive, seagate is a good drive I am not sure if hitachi make drives that big.

I brought one of those seagate momentus HDs for my T41. Works fine but makes a slightly annoying whooshing sound.

tom101: can I use this disk for my T40:

Seagate Momentus 5400.3 ST9160821A
160 GB / 5400 rpm / 8 MB / ATA-100 / 12.5 ms
Buffer størrelse: 8 MB
Dataoverførselshastighed: 100 MBps

Or is 7200 RPM bether if it exist???

Price in denmark 150 euro

Or is hitachi better?? It seems that all in this forum buy hitachi???

Hi Koden,

Well that's exactly the model that I have and all I can say is that it works fine in my T41. Sorry I can't be more help but I wouldn't want to give you wrong information. I doubt that you will see a big performance improvement if you go for a 7200rpm over 5400rpm but having an 8MB buffer is probably more important. Like I said, the only minor grumble I have is that this HD makes a whooshing noise when I bought it because I wanted a quiet drive. I looked here for the noise info which maybe interesting to you

I personally would recommend the Hitachi 7K100 HDDs, but the Seagates work fine too.

Depending on what you do, you might want to go with more RPM, or you might want to go with larger capacity if you had to choose.

larger capacity is more importend for me.
So if hitachi is just as good, maybe I should look at prices.
Hitachi is a little bit cheeper...

Sorry for my spelling :-)

Is it still 160 GB that is the the biggest HD for T40 or any laptop???

is there any problem when installing such a big one in a T40?
