T40 wont start.

#1 Post by nodus » Fri Dec 08, 2006 3:13 pm

My recently purchased t40 wont start. It had been working fine this morning. I put it into hybernate mode in ubuntu and carried it to work and now it won't even go to the bios. After letting it sit for a while I did manage to get it to the bios and to the startup password but then it stopped again. I don't have a administrator password set. I have tried taking out the hard drive, the battery, and the cdrom drive but it seems to not make a diffrence, currently I am suspecting heat because of the fact that when i let it sit i could start it. Let me know if you have any ideas of what I could try. I believe it is still under warrenty but I really cant be without it for that long.

yeah accept it didn't work for very long. Its back to being dead. I dont have a bloody clue why. Seems like a mobo thing to me but I dont know for sure. Could be cpu as well. I dont have a spare so all i can do is check that it is in there properly. if anyone has a good parts source in san francisco(or boston, I will be there for xmas) please let me know. I need to get this working as soon as possible hence the ebay avoidance.

It seems to be a motherboard or cpu problem as it was intermitant then died and won't reach the bios, right before it died the ram passed a memtest86+ test. It has a 1gb and a 512 sick both of which I have tried in together and seprately in both slots. So now I suspect the mobo or the cpu. I have removed the cmos battery along with all power and let it sit for a while to clear any cmos settings. All I get when I turn it on is the fan, the cdrom and hd and the leds. No backlight, no bios, and the fan never dies down as it normaly would.
