no more free recovery cds?
no more free recovery cds?
I just called up Atlanta tech support for the 2613HJU I just got in the other day for the recovery cds and they said I had to pay $45 for them? I was under the impression that they were free if you called in and asked for them within 30days of purchase...

No, they always charge $45. Why don't you just burn your own recovery discs?

I have always gotten recovery CD's because I don't yet have a new enough ThinkPad or NetVista to create my own. My advice, however, is the same:
Whether you buy them (preferable for me) or create your own, do it early (at brand new time) and use them immediately to recover your new box. Why? To ensure they work. I have had recovery sets for my NetVista A30 and for my T41 from IBM that did not work and had to be replaced. There have been reports here of sets burnt that did not work. The best time to know this is at brand new.

I called Lenovo yesterday also, and that guy refused to give me recovery CDs( and he impatiently yelled me). He said if I deleted all data in my hard drive, It was my fault and I have to pay the Recovery CDs. WTF, I paid money on Windows XP, and Lenovo refused to support this?. I have T42 also, at that time, I had no problem to ask for recovery cds even I told them I format entire hard drive.

You need to keep calling and get different people to answer your call and you must to explain your problem and make sure everyone know about your problem and also tell them that there is 1 rude guy who shouted at you.ronan_zj wrote: <snip>

As for the shouting incident, i am very sorry to hear about this lousy customer service support from that particular "black sheep" in Lenovo. I will file in a complain if i were you.

You can get your r & r from them within 30 days of your purchase. if later than 30 days and you erase everything on your own accord, then blame yourself.
Ok. Go buy a new HDD and put it into your thinkpad and drive all the way down to the service centre and borrow their recovery disks from them and run recovery on your thinkpad and once you have completed everything, go home and burn your set of recovery and remember to file in a complain about their lousy customer service. <--they are not supposed to shout at customers!!!No, another one said no.
If I format my entire hard drive, it will be my fault. Lenovo do not take any responsibility for this.
then I siad: then what happen to my $100 on Microsoft WinXP?
he said: Sorry to hear that, I can not do further things unless you buy the recovery CDs.

Can a moderator split this thread into a new topic counting 6 posts upwards including this.
so that we can address ronan\'s problem.
sorry to the OP (Goshark) for hijacking your thread.
Note from Moderator: There's no reason to split this, but if you guys don't start trimming your quotes, I'll do it for you. And you won't like the results...

Emm... Sorry, in a haste, i forgot to trim the quotes. I have edited my previous post.
As for ronan, bring your thinkpad down to the service centre and borrow their R & R disks and burn your own copy when you reach home.
Cheers...( I've just sharpen my scissors)

At least you could get free keyboard replacement and the part will just arrive to your home. In Mexico I've to send the entire laptop to do a simple swap of keyboards. I'll NEVER do that. I'm a DIY person

At work I always just make up a lie about how windows broke, and for some reason the service partition isn't working.
They always just send me the recovery cd's
