Looking for T22 recovery CD/CD's W2000

#1 Post by MaciekSK » Sat Dec 09, 2006 11:59 am

Hello!
I bought used T22 with W2000 sticker without any discs and of course without a recovery partition. I thought that any cd with W2000 will work with a serial on a sticker but it looks that I need an original cd for IBM. Can someone help me? I wrote to Lenovo about possibilities to buy a disc set, but I still didin't get any answer.

Well my T22 came loaded with XP Prof. with a business license(edited to say Volume License Key), so I can continue to get free updates. I don't think you need to deal with Lenovo at all on the OS software. Just buy the Windows platform software that you want and install. I am sure someone else with more knowledge will post soon. Good luck and happy holidays :D

Perhaps this thread might shed some light? :

Thanks for your answer. I wouldn't buy a new windows why I have a W2000 sticker on T22. The problem is that I don't have a W2000 wich can match serial on a sticker... I didn't have an IBM laptop before and I don't know how system works during installation (you must to type a serial from a sticker on not). I'm looking for someone who have T22 with W2000 and can record a cd for me with a recovery option or something else which can help me to restore an original W2000.

The factory install uses a Volume License Key, not the one on the sticker. You don't have to type anything in.
I have a set of T23 win2k discs but they are not the same as a T22, Sorry. :(
Maybe someone else here has a set.

i was asking myself the same question a few days ago...

i have a windows XP Pro SP1 license sticker on the back of my T23 but it doesn't work on a standard XP install CD...why?

if the preinstalled windows has a volume license key why do i have the sticker with the dud key? what is it for? another serial wich ibm uses to track/spy on us?

You should have some signs that you have a legal system on a computer :) I think that all the serials on stickers from IBM in Microsoft figure as sold for IBM. That means you can pay less for a computer with preinstalled system.

I don't think so, if you don't enter any serial numbers who can track or spy (if it possible...) us?

 they know who they are

shhh...type slowly, the government can hear you...they'r all over the place 8)

now back to business...
so if i have that sticker on my laptop this means that i have a license and i ca use a copy of windows XP even if it's not from the original cd that came with the laptop 'cause i've missplaced my discs
so i'm all legal...now that's a good thing :)

I have a T23 with XP prp sticker on the bottom with license key. It was on when I bought the T23 used. I added a bigger Hard drive and did not have the install CD so I had to use a XP SP2 install disk I had with a different serial number. Well I could get it to install but never could get it to take updates, I got that damed illegal copy wep message. I tried both serial numbers. Is there anything I can do to get it legal again? Right now I have a patch so I don't see the warning and have turned off auto updates.

Windows 2000

#11 Post by helmet4000 » Sat Jan 06, 2007 11:14 pm

I bought a t21 with Windows 2000 Code of Authenticity. Did not have install disks from IBM either.

From this company, www.mdofpc.com I purchased and downloaded a copy of Windows 2000 Professional. I then used the burned copy of the software to install Win2K on my T21 using the product key on the bottom of the laptop. Worked fine. Then I sold the product key for and a burned copy of Windows 2000 that came with the software.
