Bought 1 gig ram for t42, doesn't work
Hi,
I recently purchased a 1 gig SO DIMM PC 3200 DDR 400 200-pin memory module for my T42. However, when I put it in, my laptop beeps first 3 times, then twice, then the screen stays black. Anyone know what could be wrong? It is 'comstar' branded with Hynix chips on it. I have tried it on my dad's X31 and it works fine.
EDIT:
Does the T42 work with 400 MHZ PC 3200 SODIMM's?

The T43 requires DDR2 modules, while theX31 uses DDR
IBM TP T41p (1.7G/1GB/100GB-7k100/DVD-CDRW/SXGA+/BT)
IBM TP T22 (900/512/40/DVD/CDRW/14")
IBM TP A31 (1.8GHz/512MB/40GB/DVD-CDRW/15" SXGA)

Correct, but he is talking about a T42, not 43.Orevin wrote:The T43 requires DDR2 modules, while theX31 uses DDR
My T42 uses PC2700 not 3200. I don't think that should make a difference, but I would wait for a memory expert to show up and clarify.
Have you tried putting the RAM in both slots?

I'm not an expert, but I think the memory module could work if you're using 2 memory chips with the same speed (333MHz or 400MHz)
Try this:
- Use the PC3200 chip on one slot, removing the stock chip
I also think that PC3200 memory can work in 333MHz frecuency but if there's another memory inserted on the other slot spec'ed with 333MHz: then the laptop wouldn't boot unless you use same speed with both memory chips

Weird. Maybe because of the stick CAS latency. Check the official specs for the T42, i think is 2.5 CAS
