LCD Assembly; Loose Hinges
Has anyone ever tightened the hinges on a 600E? Is the process straightforward? I attempted to tighten the nuts on the end to see if that would have any effect, but they would not budge. Is this something that will involve taking the hinges apart?
Thanks.
Thanks.

I believe that hinges need to be replaced, not tightened. You would need to disassemble a good portion of the laptop to get the LCD out, though the 600 is very easy to work on.

I was afraid of that. I have some very tight hinges that I can put in, I just didn't want to open it all the way up again.
I found a thread yesterday (I can't find it now) where someone had claimed to have tightened the hinges; details were not given.

Okay, so I changed out my hinges. Now my LCD assembly creaks when I open and close it. After dissecting my laptop for the fourth time (I really don't like having to take her apart) I have discovered the source of the sound is this ribbon cable on the far right (it would be under the print screen key or thereabouts). The tension caused from being spooled seems to be the culprit. The sound disappears when I unscrew and unplug the cable. I could unwrap one layer of cable to loosen it, but this doesn't completely eliminate the sound, and the looping cable takes up too much space when unwrapped.
Has anyone else experienced something like this? Is it something I need to worry about (noise being an indicator of friction and all that)? Any tips?
Thanks.

I have actually discovered that I do not need to remove the LCD assembly to remove the LCD itself. And I'm sure I'm not actually supposed to do it that way, but I am tired of messing with extraneous screws.dsigma6 wrote:You would need to disassemble a good portion of the laptop to get the LCD out

LCD replacement
Is there a way to get step-by-step instructions [with diagrams] of how to replace the LCD screen assembly of a ThinkPad 600E?
I have looked at the manual and removed the screws it appears to suggest, but the LCD is not coming off. I can not even get the hinge covers off where I know the ribbon cables are.

Re: LCD replacement
Do you have the 600E HMM??? If no, then the link below will bring you to the 600E Hardware manual.pigsdofly wrote:Is there a way to get step-by-step instructions [with diagrams] of how to replace the LCD screen assembly of a ThinkPad 600E?

welcome to this wonderful & amazing forum.

Being the computer novice I am, I'm still not getting it.
Used your link to find the manual section covering LCD hinges/cables, LCD assembly, and removal.
Took out at least 2 dozen screws - maybe more then necessary - but can not locate and/or remove something called the "center cover" manual pg 78. Is this under the key board?
Does the key board need to be removed - manual pgs 72-73 - to remove the LCD?
I actually was trying to do this and thought I removed all the necessary screws, but stopped after one side started cracking. It does not easily lift up.
Last year I was able to change the BIOS battery - soldered it myself - so I'm not totally incapable.
Any more hints???????????

Are you replacing just the LCD or the entire LCD assembly?
In any case, you do need to remove the keyboard assembly, because "hinge covers" are part of it and will prevent you from removing the LCD assembly. Also, the cables you need to unplug are under the keyboard assembly.
The center cover is a long thin piece of plastic abutting the keyboard assembly that you need to remove. It sits right underneath your monitor. It just pulls out. You might have some success by pulling the center of the cover so it bows slightly upward (there are tabs on either end that fit under the lips on either side).
