The recovery CDs automatically load the service partition. Just read the questions carefully while you're recovering and answer them appropriately.
Not sure what you're trying to do with USB? The BIOS supports booting directly from USB drives and the drivers are native to WIN XP.

i have sever recovery cd's. when i booted with cd 1, there a warning that my harddrive will be formatted, and i choose yes. then it comes a massage again that tells my hard drive have not enough space for the recovery files, and i have to restart my pc then.
or may ber i have to update hdd firmware? if so, i dont have floppy disk drive. is there another way to update the firmware? thanks.
