Dual display -different resolution

#1 Post by kruzo » Mon Dec 11, 2006 11:24 am

T60p, ATI card with 14" 1400x1050. External display (analog cable) -- 1600x1200.

Is it possible to have both displays show the same screen (not extended, but the same) with different resolution. For some reason
I am only able to do that when I "extend", otherwise it uses the
smaller resolution for both, even though the "settings" menu
shows higher resolution set for the 2nd.

Thanks,

K

No, you can't mirror a screen out to be of higher resolution, it simply won't work that way - perhaps you could emulate the higher resolution, but doubt that..

When you "mirror" the display, you are showing the same image on both displays. Since the image is generated only once (by Windows or whatever other OS you choose to run) it is not possible to select different resolutions for the internal and external displays.

kruzo, I am curious why you want to use different resolutions for the two displays. You are using them to show the same images anyway.

I'm pretty sure my T30 can mirror my higher resolution external monitor on the internal LCD, but the desktop will be larger than the internal screen, e.g. you only see part of the desktop and as you move the mouse towards the edge the picture starts to scroll. You might need to uncheck "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display" in the display properties to make this happen.
