Memory compatibilty

#1 Post by equinoxe » Mon Dec 11, 2006 3:27 pm

Can I use this memory in either my T43 or my T42P please :
p/n 73P3842

I can buy two memory parts of 512 Mb each at a very cheap price, each of them in unopened boxes.

Many thanks for a reply.

73P3842 is the p/n of IBM Thinkpad 512 MB PC2-4200 DDR2-533 RAM, which can only be used in T43.

The memory stick used in T42p is DDR PC2700 one. PC2-4200 is NOT backward compatible with PC2700.

has anyone had any problems with a particular brand? Kingston, Corsair etc.

I only ask as I found out the hard way that a stick of corsair wasn't compatible with my old Asus M6n.

Cheers

The T4x series of laptops are not picky. They will take just about anything as long as the latency is correct (CL2.5 for PC2700 on T41/42, CL2 for PC2100 on T40, CL4/5 for PC2-4200 on T43).
