ThinkPad Backups !

#1 Post by Truthfinder » Mon Dec 11, 2006 11:09 pm

Does any of the software that comes installed on the T60 ThinkPad do backups, other than the system as it was from the factory?

Now that I have my ThinkPad loaded with all my additional programs, I'd like to make a backup to DVDs.

Also, I used Partition Magic to partition my H.D. I now have a C, D, and my DVD unit is E.

In conclution, will the hidden partition work in the event I want to revert back to the factory fresh install even though I partitioned my drive? I did NOT remove the hidden file installed by Lenovo....

Your advice is appreciated..............

Thanks, steve

The RnR suite that came on the T60 should have an option to make a system backup to several types of media, including DVDs.

As long as you didn't change the MBR during the partitioning, it should work. Ideally, it would be best to set the HPA to "Secure" before doing any re-partitioning of the drive just to be sure. :)

She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

While you are listening in, I have one other issue.

I made the mistake of setting up the security Chip that came with my ThinkPad. After setting it up and putting in a password, it worked great. After a few days I decided that I did'nt really need all this security. So, I went in and made the needed changes and than went into the bios and turned it off.

I've been trying to make some changes with respect to my password, however, when I try to make a change it asks me for my password. I enter it, but it tells me it's not right. I know it's right as I've been using the same password for years on end.

Any ideas or an I screwed !

Steve
