soon to join the x60s club

#1 Post by jamse » Tue Dec 12, 2006 5:35 pm

so i just ordered x60s (1702-H7U):
  • 1.83ghz L2500
    1.5gb (came with 2x512mb, i purchased 1gb for 100 from the website)
    80gb 5400rpm
    Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG
    8 cell battery
    3year warranty
fingerprint reader (something i dont use..)
totall price: $1624.67

i have a few questions though...
1. can i later get the abgn wireless (i heard one of the abg wireless had issues)
2. can i change the amount of ram the video card will use?
3. is there a difference between the modems 1702-h7u and 1705-CTO, the 1705-CTO is the model thats used on the public site. the reason i ask this is b/c the first t43's were alot larger than later ones like what i had.

other notes: if you wish there were visaperks for usa, goto http://usa.visa.com click on personal and then find a retailer you want discounts from, lenovo is now up there :D they have it so visa members get employee pricing.

Thanks for the tip! I used it to buy a 4-cell slim line battery for my X60s, with a $40 discount off the regular price, and $13 discount off my alma mater's alumni pricing.

You can upgrade at any time by swapping the MiniPCI wireless card.

no problem with the built in wireless,
only the heat dissipated on the right palm rest area is unbearable for some sensitive people out there.

Maybe you can put some sort of heat insulation between the mini-pci for wireless and the palmrest.

Wouldn't that cause the wireless card to overheat?

Congratulations! And thanks again for the usa.visa.com link. The X60s battery that I ordered through that link arrived yesterday, reducing the weight of my X60s from 3.46 lbs to 2.89 lbs as measured with a balance in my lab. I am a happy man!
