Hard drive caddy screw

#1 Post by mlli4 » Tue Dec 12, 2006 7:33 pm

I recently plan to upgrade the hard driver for my T42. I dont' want to take off the caddy from my origin hard drive so I bought a caddy from ebay. but the screw with the caddy is too big. Is it possible to ask Lenovo to send me the screw? I can pay for it. Anyone knows the part number?

Thanks.

You might want to ask for one in the Marketplace section on this board. People are nice, if they have an extra they'll probably just send it to you.

However, if you don't post your location in your profile, people may not be so nice...

HD caddy screws

#4 Post by RRHODY » Thu Dec 14, 2006 12:20 pm

I've had good luck at my local hobby shop. The screws used in model RC cars and boats are similar to what you need. Take the caddy and the too-big screws and let them see if they have something that will work. For instance, the locking security screw for the HD on the 600 series takes a DeBro number 2120 which comes three to a package for less than $2.00.

As a temporary solution, you can share 2 screws off one of your hard drives. You should have 4 on each caddy, but can get by with just 2 to keep the caddy in place.

It's an M3 screw

if you've ever assembled your own desktop, or know someone who has, the case comes with a whole bunch of those; they are normally used to attach CD-ROMs and floppies to their rails.

I haven't looked for the screw in question, but there are cheap kits of computer screws that can be purchased from online stores that sell computer parts. I'm not recommending this particular kit but there are many like it sold by many online stores:

If you look around you should be able to find something that would be worth having in the closet for just such a need.
