Here is the Watcher program. It should be the same program for the 5720 as the 595.

Thank you. The sierra site says that the software is not for Vista RTM, but I take it you have gotten it to work on Vista RTM anyway? including the full functionality?

You'll have to ask menerso what he did. I have a Sierra Wireless 860 AirCard with Cingular service and HSDPA technology. So really I cannot help you very much. Note that when I put in Verizon for the carrier using the 595 Aircard, the page was redirected to a Smith Micro site for downloading VZAccess Manager. There was an XP download, but no Vista download. I got to the Watcher program download by choosing Other for the carrier.

Here is another link from Sierra Wireless' website.

Windows Vista Downloads Notification Request

EDIT: FYI, I have used the Sierra Wireless 3G Watcher program for HSDPA (860 Aircard) with Vista RC1 successfully. I do not have any newer versions of Vista at my disposal.

IBM has just posted the Verizon Drivers for the Sierra MC5720 card.

I installed it on my T60p and it was a piece of cake.

Lenovo Driver + Sierra Watcher = Perfect Combination

#35 Post by ssimon » Thu Feb 01, 2007 9:09 am

The Lenovo driver itself works great but it is not going to work standalone, it was designed to work with Lenovo's Access Connections software.

Some of us do not want to install Access Connections & Vista RTM will not "dial-up" directly from the "Network & Sharing Center"

I was able to use the Lenovo Vista release driver, and also use the Sierra Wireless EVDO Watcher v0.6.55 as posted above by minehan and GomJabbar. Now everything works like a charm and without ANY manual configuration. Just choose "VZAccess" when the Watcher starts up.

This setup is much better in my mind as the Watcher takes up less screen real estate and supports SMS quite nicely. The watcher has an even smaller footprint window option and a nice status bar signal strength indicator.

P.S. For reference, I had to 1st install Intel Chipset Drivers, the Vista System Interface Driver, the Vista ThinkPad Power Management Driver and the Hotkey Features Driver to enable the WWAN card.

I've downloaded and loaded all the required updates, software and drivers yet Vista still can't find the driver to load despite my best efforts to point it to every possible directory that I could think of.

I have an exclamation mark over the Sierra Wireless MC5720 modem in the device manager and it is listed under other devices. Can Anyone help? This is pretty ridiculous since I moved my hard drive from a t60p to a T60 thinking that it could be a hardware issue but still the same result. I even tried to do this in an X60 and the same result, I simply can't load the driver. Please help with any info, including the driver names I need to search for and/or where the drivers are extracted to other than program files/sirerra wireless/mc5720. Thanks!

There is the Verizon software at vzam.net which you could try in addition to the Watcher program in a previous post. Also, if you do Windows Update under Vista it may show you the driver.

Also try uninstalling and reinstalling the Lenovo driver if you already havent.

Honestly, though, I have the built-in which is EVDO Rev 0 but the EVDO Rev A is far superior and recommend you get the upgrade and turn off the internal in BIOS.

Also check out the site: www.evdoinfo.com to see performance differences. I'm getting 800-1200 bps download and 600 or so upload with ping times in the 75ms range.

I've installed and removed the lenovo driver several times, to different directories with no joy. Vista simply insists the dirver (inf?) isn't found so it doesn't install. Going to Rev A is not an option since I bought the Thinkpad with the integrated card and am satisfied with the speeds I'm getting under XP. I simply need suggestions that help me get the driver to load so either access connections or the VZ Access recognize the modem.

Again, this is a driver issue, not a software connection problem. VZ access claims the modem is disabled (it's not) and software updates for the card generates new hardware found dialog only to fail to find the driver.

I'm in a endless loop, and know that calling Lenovo tech support will be a complete waste of time (I've tried) and they try to push the problem on Verizon and Sierra.

Can someone who has this installed this card under Vista check and list the driver file that is installed, and maybe the location of that file please?

Any help is appreciated.

Sierra Wireless Driver : 2.0.13.0
1/11/2007

modem.sys
swmx00.sys

Are the driver files:

But I'm using the AC 595 and not the built-in modem.

the download from vzam got my MC5720 "working"

#41 Post by drfranktate » Tue Mar 13, 2007 3:42 pm

It still shows up with an exclamation point in Device Manager, but Verizon Access Manager (version 6.0.2 (1583e)) is able to turn on and use my card to connect.

It's kinda weird since I can see that the WWAN light is on (at the bottom of my LCD screen - right next to the BlueTooth light), and VZAM is able to dial out on it, but Device Manager says that it's not working right, and I can't point it anywhere to force it to find the drivers.

So it does actually work with VZAM, but it still shows up "broken" in Device Manager. So it's fixed as far as I'm concerned :)

UNinstall the network adapter in Device Manager and then go run the setup file again that you downloaded from IBM. That will fix the device manager issue. I did it last night.

Manually Extract Drivers

#43 Post by imwackonow » Thu May 24, 2007 6:49 pm

In my case, to work around an inability for Vista to find the Drivers I just downloaded from IBM, I had to manually extract the drivers from the msi file, ala:

msiexec /a whateverthenamewas.msi

I put these files into c:\junk and then pointed Vista to this directory whenever it wanted a driver. This, and the proper driver from IBM, solved my problems.
