Hi guys, really stupid question, but why can't you just put a quad core Core 2 Duo?

Because Core 2 Quad only comes in a desktop packaged array (775 pins), and laptop motherboards only run 478 pins.

It won't fit.

And this isn't even taking into consideration that there is no possible way to keep one of those cool with a TINY laptop heatsink and fan.

Quad core for laptops won't happen for AT LEAST another year (after Intel shrinks them on the upcoming 45nm process node).
Custom T60p
2.33GHz 4MB 667MHz Core 2 Duo
4GB PC2-5300 DDR SDRAM
Bluetooth / Atheros ABGN
200GB 7k200 7200RPM Hard Drive
8X DVD Multiburner
15" UXGA - ATI FireGL V5250 (256MB)
