Misc. updates never install (or don't register properly)

#1 Post by mmo » Thu Dec 14, 2006 5:38 am

Several updates (ThinkVantage System Update, ThinkVantage Fingerprint SW, MS Windows XP SP2 HD Audio Driver Package) apparently don't register themselves properly.

I have installed these now about 3 times, but SW Installer still reports them as "uninstalled".

Have others experienced this as well? Some fix available?

1. Did you re-boot?
2. Call 800-IBM-SERV for tech support

1.) yes, of course I rebooted.

2.) Calling from Switzerland I find such US 800 numbers not really the optimal solution. That's why I usually prefer online help or fora.

I've had the same experience with an update to WinDVD Creator.

Just to clarify: with "registration" I didn't mean the entry in Window's Control Panel => "Add/Remove programs" but rather in Lenovo's "Software Installer". Whenever I fire up that tool it lists the mentioned system drivers/utilities as "Not Installed", even though I installed them already several times.

I wouldn't expect to see DVD Creator (or any other "normal" application) to appear in this list.

What I mean is that the ThinkVantage update software keeps giving me an update to WinDVD Creator in the list of software updates available, even after it has been installed several times.

I suspect we might be talking about slightly different issues...

I guess so. I am talking about that (semi-)automatic system updates using Lenovo's "ThinkVantage Software Installer", i.e. that utility that helps keeping your system drivers etc. at the latest level.

It checks your installed driver version vs. the latest available on Lenovo's support site and allows to easily download and install them (normally, that is...). Some recent updates don't seem to properly behave or integrate with that tool.

Cheers,
Michael
