2668-G7U T43P - What is the biggest harddrive I can get?

#1 Post by eleonas » Thu Dec 14, 2006 5:02 pm

I currently have a 60GB 7200rpm harddrive in this puppy. Does anyone know where I can find a list of harddrives that are compatible with my machine? Preferrably I would like to stay at 7200rpm (I beleive this is the fastest I can go) - and double the space or more...

Thanks!

100GB (in 7200RPM) is the largest available right now. Hitachi 7K100 is slightly faster than the Seagate variety.

Early next year 200GB 7200RPM drives will be released (Hitachi 7k200 - high density perpendicular recording platters). No word on if they will be PATA though.

Much difference in speed between the 5400 and the 7200RPM?

Night and DAY. Especially if you open anything larger than a word document.

Gotcha,

Looking at the E7K100 as well right now, looks much cheaper but specs seem very close...

NOOOOOO

NEVER use the E7K100 in anything but a server.

Double that; I would strongly advise that you go with a 7K100 if you are looking at it already and not the E7K100. They look similar but can play hell with thermal and acoustic management on a laptop seeing as how the E7K100 doesn't have the necessary firmware for that as they are meant to run in blades 24/7.

Be sure to tell us how you like it and what you think of it once you finally get it. :D

Just an FYI - I bought this drive at tiger direct for about $190 Canadian shipping and taxes included.

Ugh... I just read that I will probably get the post 2010 error now... time to throw this t43p straight out the window!

There is a workaround now. Search for 2010 error.

It is possible that the latest T43 BIOS removed that restriction, but I have not had time to hunt the info down.
