Lost my F11 Option.
Lost my F11 Option.
I had occasion to restore from a backup the other day, ever since I did that, I no longer see the F11 Restore menu option on startup.
Can anyone tell me why?

You can try what carbon_unit posted, but you may be a victim of the following:
Rescue and Recovery v3.1 - ConsiderationsLenovo wrote:Symptom
Any machine that has IBM Rescue and Recovery with Rapid Restore Ultra 1.0 or IBM Rescue and Recovery 2.0 factory preloaded, then installs Rescue and Recovery 3.0, will lose the ability to have Rescue and Recovery installed on the machine after a Restore to Factory contents action is selected when booting from the computer's hard drive.
Rescue and Recovery 3.0 updates the contents of the recovery environment stored on the computer's hard drive. Restoring to Factory contents does not alter the recovery environment and could result in an inconsistent configuration. Therefore, the ability for the factory preload to install IBM Rescue and Recovery with Rapid Restore Ultra 1.0 or IBM Rescue and Recovery 2.0 after Rescue and Recovery 3.0 has been installed was purposely disabled.
Solution
It is recommended that you create Recovery CDs prior to installing any software. If this is done, Restoring to Factory contents using the Recovery CDs will restore both the recovery environment as well as the preloaded version of Rescue and Recovery into Windows. If the Recovery CDs were not created before installing Rescue and Recovery 3.0, before doing a Restore to Factory Contents you may wish to copy the Rescue and Recovery 3.0 installation files off to external media so you will not have to download from the Web again.

I had a link to the old diskette but it is no longer valid. Surely since this is a diskette it is not installing all of Rescue and Recovery 3.1 but just re-enabling F11. The cd iso is only 1.5 meg. Isn't R & R 3.1 many hundreds of megs?

If the OP had updated the version of Rescue and Recovery from the original factory install before making his backup, then the previously quoted text could come into play - this is if the OP restored to Factory Contents from the hard drive (not from the Product Recovery Disc set). If the OP never upgraded R&R, then that would not be the case. If the OP restored to Factory Contents using the Product Recovery Discs, then that would not be the case.
I think it might be possible to uninstall the current version of Rescue and Recovery then install the original version to restore the F11 option. The Rescue and Recovery - Recovery repair diskette may also be needed.

I actualy did a full restore from an external usb disk. I am using R&R 3.1. BUT I don't understand why F11 should no longer be present as it was a complete restore.

I believe if you ever upgrade Rescue and Recovery, then all of your backups will be affected by the problem I quoted above. Since you are probably doing this on your T30, then you obviously upgraded Rescue and Recovery. The T30 did not come with Rescue and Recovery version 3.1.
If you have the following directory C:\IBMTOOLS\APPS\IBMRNR, you can try to fix this, but I offer no guarantee's. I am just speculating that this might work. First uninstall any version of ThinkVantage Rescue and Recovery you have from Windows Add or Remove Programs. Also uninstall any version of IBM Rescue and Recovery with Rapid Restore. Reboot, then run the Rescue and Recovery executable from the above directory. On my T42 it is called IBMRNR.EXE.
Your other safer option would be to get a copy of the Product Recovery Discs - From Lenovo or a 3rd party. The only problem with this is, when you use these discs they erase all existing data on the hard drive and restore the Software Environment to the original Factory State.
